What the heck are these??

These are available quite cheap, locally. The seller sent me a couple of photos, which were quite poorly done. I've doctored them up as best I can. What has me fascinated is the tweeter. I have no idea what it is. It is metal, but seems to have a small dome in the middle of a suspension system, much like a Yamaha NS 20X tweeter.

Anyone have any ideas or opinions?

Both the midrange and the thing I assume you assume is a tweeter look like they were added by someone, especially the tweeter since it overlaps the edge of the plate its screwed to (and neither driver has all its screws). Frankly, it looks like some sort of small driver with something glued to the middle. I'm as curious as you are, but perhaps less impressed.

It looks like "mix and match" drivers. Neither of the top two have screw holes or screws in all locations. Maybe homemade?

I agree with the above observations. Missing screws is never a good sign. Usually a harbinger of carelessness, which may translate to the way the speakers were assembled.

However, out of curiosity sake, I would like a closer look at those tweeters. I may go tomorrow for a peek.

Is it possible that the plate and smaller speakers (Mid/High) are installed over an opening where a horn was previously installed? When I squint and my vision goes blurry (as it always does this time at night) I see Klipsch.

Anyway, besides substituted components you might have a modified crossover. Please note that horns are expensive as are proper crossovers. But the cabinets look worthy, the low frequency drivers look OK as well.

Do you have the time, patience (and credits with the significant other) to undertake a project?

I do, especially for 50 smackeroos! Your talking to a guy who spent 20 min. cleaning the residue off a woofer with his fingernails, prior to refoaming. I'm going to bring my screw driver to see what's what. If the seller obliges, that is. If not, it's good-bye!
