What the heck is WAF?

cfinchrist

God bless America.
I know, it's "wife acceptance factor", I just dont get it. I love my wife, but I dont tell her what size of purse to buy, or the color. I dont tell her what clothes to buy, or that she cant buy a particular peice of furniture because I dont like the looks of it. If my wife told me "no big speakers", I'd buy a pair of Cornwalls or Klipschhorns or something. It's my hobby, and they are my speakers. My wife doesnt tell me anything of the sort because she'd rather have me at home listening to my vintage KLH than spending all my time and money at the bar, or chasing other women and such (not that I have those issues, she's just glad I do not).

I get what ever I want.My wife does the same. She has her space,I have mine..But I can see where others, due to budget or available space, may have to play the WAF game.My first "X " was that way.

hmm I have always wondering what it meant now I know! lol
I don't have to worry about WAF cause I am single and alone lol.
but when the day comes she better be aware that all my audio stuff stays! not like their wont be any warning for her. any body I am to go out with will surely see my vintage audio gear ha ha.

For those of us who are married or living with a partner, it is nothing more than an act of respect towards one another. Both parties should be living comfortably in every aspect within the four walls which they call home. As long as the family and household are not suffering there should be no problem.

This phenomenon called WAF I find applies to households with limited living space, or where there is so much gear in the house that it's beginning to look like a warehousing facility. After-all, it is a home and women take pride in the way the home looks.

If your wife tells you "no big speakers" she probably means that if the speakers look like a couple of "Marshall Stacks" they will stick out like a soar thumb in the living room. My wife also said "please...no big speakers". But when she came back from a trip and walked into the living room and saw the wood finishing (wild cherry) on my newly acquired Devore Gibbon Nines her jaw fell to the floor. "Georgous" she said..."absolutely georgous". She now calls them her two jewels. The room has to have some flow to it and look nice too. Can't blame her.

Now I know you don't tell her how many purses (or what size/color) to buy but then again I doubt you are tripping over purses as soon as you enter the front door.

It's the nature of this hobby......I doubt WAF would be mentioned if we were stamp collectors.

In the end it's all about compromise and understanding.

Just my two bits worth.

Cheers!

I think this sums it all up very nicely.

I am now single.........due to negative WAF.

Being single has it's advantages.

My ex would have had a problem with my current collection/obsession if I had all the gear I have now, but she's the ex for good reasons. My future ex-wife is pretty understanding and tolerant of my sickness so she gets to stay for a while.

Every situation is different but generally someone with a lot of negative waf is probably married to, or with the wrong person for them. You only live once, don't waste it with someone you are incompatible with.

In IMHO someone who is more than slightly concerned with WAF is whipped and should start wearing a collar :D

Lauriann says all my stuff is what's gonna support her after I kick the bucket, so she don't mind...I remember I got her & Bethany, my little "girlfriend" back in the "Ship's Radio Room" one time, & I was "Splainin' " what all they were & how valuable they were...Bethany's eyes got big as saucers, you could see the wheels turnin in her head... Lauriann goes, Now just wait a minute, little girl...I gotta go, too, before YOU get YOUR hands on all this..." Bethany just shot her a look like "Well, THAT can be arrainged..." Me, I was sittin' there, grinnin' from ear to ear, enjoying the show...

I no longer have wife, have girlfriend, she no like big speakers, she go live outside! Wife bad, speakers good.:D

:D

The living-room had a PA, guitar amps, and a drum kit in it :D, and still do,
....and we still play together in the band, aahhhh domestic bliss. :pistols:
Music is a huge part of our lives, we just can't live together anymore.

Very well put my friend. My wife does interior design although not very much lately because of the economy,so she needs to have our house looking just right in case one of her clients comes over.Big speakers look great to me but not to women it seems. And I have my H.T. setup in the family room and my vintage gear in the garage(heated of course)it wouldn't fit in my entertainment center anyway. It's all about having consideration for your partner.:thmbsp:

your first "X"? Are you a glutten for punishement? :lmao:

As I have often noted here at AK, my wife and I live in a tiny house. Really tiny. I finally realized how frustrated she was feeling with all my audio gear in the living room, so I moved the whole kit n' kaboodle into the empty second bedroom. Where it sits to this day.

She never asked me to move it (an probably never would have), but over time even a thick old dummy like me realized that it was wearing on her. To tell the truth, I'd shove it all out into the yard and set it on fire before I'd make her that miserable again.
