Went to auction this weekend full of High End HIFI:

Mark Levinson
Madrigal
Anthem
Aerial Acoustics
etc..

All I could afford were these 2 massive 72LBS ea. Line Conditioners....They were rack mounted so no feet! Why are they 1500.00+ New and why do they weight so much?? What kinda value do they still have... Both work!

Well they are $1500.00 + new because that is what the maker wanted to charge, they weigh a lot due to batteries inside Ebay will answer your question of value.

Regards Snow

apparently Furman F1500 is the sister model! I assume if batteries are good I should leave them inside and not try to remove to lighten the load??

Well not sure why you would want to remove the batteries, they are useless without them unless you are concerned about staying under USPS weight limits for shipping, I have never opened one up to see how easy they are to remove but if you do so, you are taking a risk that the new owner will not be able to re install the batteries correctly and then want to return them. and there is of course a chance of getting a nasty jolt since they store up power.

The batteries are the point. These are most useful for someone who runs a projection system. The back up can give time for a proper shutdown and save a $300 bulb.

I don't have a projector myself, but if I did I would need one of these as we have brief brown/blackouts on a somewhat regular basis here.

Because for some buyer, expensive = good. Panamax and Furman use this to make money. Having said that, it does output Sine Wave and provide uninterrupted power when flash power lose happens ( it always happen in my area). It prevents your old gear from powering off and on many times in a very short period of time.

@sixthday Thanks for the vid. If mine were dead and I were to sell I would remove all 4 batteries to lighten load by half! Would cost alot less to ship! Luckily my batteries are still quite good!!

One of these would have saved a few pieces of gear that failed during some nasty brown outs and blackouts. (I had a damaged CPU PSU, my sansui 719 started having problems, and an LG fridge crapped out too...

I appreciate cynicism as much as the next guy and will be the first to call out cryogenically treated speaker wire on stone standoffs, but you are wrong to infer that power conditioning is snake oil. It is absolutely beneficial. If it weren't, you wouldn;t find it in recording studios and live sound rigs (no cryo wire there, I assure you).

the extra battery unit, similar rack mount size and plugs into the rear is 800 new. Is that just a few of those $20 batteries in a box to offer more backup? Wonder if a couple car batteries could be hooked up to the ext. battery connections.

If this thing regens electricity and will last some time, it might be a nice unit to have to use with sources. Pull the plug and let the sources use a regen 60Hz sine wave signal. Plug it back in when the listening session is over.

Another point to consider...

I've purchased two used defective Panamax conditioners, one from eBay and one from a local used hifi shop who failed to test their merchandise before reselling it. Sadness. The happiness? Panamax customer service was excellent. I called them, explained the situation hoping for some repair tips, and they offered me new gear at 50% off. The $115 total I spent on each of the two broken conditioners (same model.. $75 at the local hifi shop (raspberry to you guys for that) and $40 on eBay) ended up saving me about $300 on their current, better models. I was pleasantly surprised at their support. I checked before accepting their offer, and their offered discount was MUCH lower than any current "street" price I could find. Much.

Where did I say power conditioning is snake oil? I never said expensive = power conditioning or power conditioning = expensive, only you are imply this. It is a 1500va sine wave UPS. The common price for a 1500VA sine wave UPS is only around $200

A computer UPS doesn't have the same filtration (as I understand it, I'm not an expert).

You say you didn't imply that power conditioning is snake oil, but then you recommend a unit that doesn't have power conditioning.

You really don't know what the power conditioning mean, do you?

https://pscpower.com/power-conditioner/

quote:
" Power conditioners recreate a smooth pure sine wave, maintain a constant voltage against spikes and sags, protect against harmonics, and provide electrical isolation when the application requires it."

This is exactly what a sine wave UPS is doing.

The underline process is all the same: Raw AC > regulated DC > Good AC

No They dont. Because if Furman starts to talk about sine wave, who will buy their product?

AC power is nothing but a sinewave like this. Unless they have some alien technology, all they have to do is to produce the perfect red line in this figure where everybody else call it pure sine wave.
