What to do about tech rip off?

+1 on what Sheltie Dave said. The same kind of documentation is how you convince the CC company to reverse the charge in the first place. Write all that down, use complete sentences and good grammar. Describe how he reacted when you called him and that he refused to discuss fixing the situation. The CCC will forward that on to the repair shop and they will have to respond. The CCC will then have to judge whether the charge should be reversed.

^^^excellent advice. I had a Marshall tube guitar amp here last week that a computer "tech" butcher the treble control. He burnt the PCB so bad he lifted the ends of the traces. I explained to the owner I would do my best to repair it. Long story short a few jumper wires and he was back in business. My bill $40. The previous guy charged him $65 and destroyed it. His like the OP's story would not demo the amp before sending it home??? Guess that's the moral of the story, check your stuff before you take it home and be suspicious of someone who won't let you.

I'm sure there is someone great in your area. Find a good tech and let him vouch for your story. I would for my customer.

i understand that you don't want the stress and hassle of having to deal with this problem, but like others have said it, from what you have told us so far, you have done absolutely NOTHING wrong, and this tech has done EVERYTHING wrong as a tech.

if you are willing, not only you will get your money back, but sue him for damage he caused to your receiver. i'd also hate to right the wrong in such a way, but that's just from a pure reality/legal perspective. sometimes, you can't make peace with everyone and also expect to see things done right. it sounds like you felt threatened or intimidated by this guy over the phone. you can either put up with his bullying or stand up and take action.

$86 dollars for repair? And your afraid he is going to take you to court? More than likely it will not happen.. You paid for service and service was not provided.. I smell your money back..

gogo,

I realize that but I'm in the process of sending it out to another (reputable)
technician.
Isnt that going to get in the way?!!
The cccompany earlier told me that they wait 45 days after the charge back is filed , then I fill out paperwork . Doesn't that mean the stereo has to sit around (in case I go to court to prove the damage and shoddy work??)
I dont know if it is worth it to me.
Anyone know how much it costs to replace a headphone jack? I have one that should fit.

first of all, replacing the headphone jack shouldn't cost you much. it's simple 2 to 3 place soldering and that's all.

as for going the distance with the claim that this tech caused damage to your receiver, both by charge back and through court, you don't have to keep your receiver from being fixed by someone else now. all you have to do is document everything. have the new tech record what the first tech did.

credit card companies are consumer friendly, and when the charge back is filed, they'll work more on your side than the merchant side. main issue is whether you got the service you paid for or not. (you clearly did not). explain on the initial charge back file that your receiver was not fixed and the tech refused to show his work done. in my opinion, there's no way you will be blamed.

you can wait until you get the receiver back from the new tech to file charge back. you usually have 6 months.

Move on, your time is worth more than $86.00. It's a loss, now broadcast the word on every forum about who these clowns are, that is worth more. It's unfortunate but it is what it is. Maybe someone on ak is close by and can get your unit straightened out. Go the charge back route, small claims I wouldn't bother with.

Please tell us the name of the shop so that we can avoid it in the future. As said previously, have your new tech document what he sees when he opens the hood. This can only help you if it does go further than just the charge back.

I wouldnt worry about the tech taking you to court. I had an issue with a Nissan dealer - my wife paid $800 for a repair to the transmission. The dealer completely misdiagnosed the issue. We gave them the opportunity to resolve it but they wanted more money. I took it to an independent shop the following week and they fixed it. I went to AMEX and got a charge back. This went on for a few months because the dealer kept of refuting my charge back..I stayed the course and finally AMEX sided with me because the dealer got caught up in their own lies...they keep changing their story. I was ready to take the dealer to small claims court. I had the truth on my side....the point is do the charge back, get it fixed someplace else...
