What to do with a broken Yamaha CR-1040?

The IG02930 is @ ebay - HKutsource now.
These guys first started selling the IG02950 about a year - 18 months ago. I asked them a few times about the 30. They said - no idea, and I replied saying what are voltages etc etc for the 50. If I recall, it was high enough to be 30 (not sure, I cant find the messages in my ebay main). Then I guess sometime before now - the 29030 showed up.
Has anyone tried it ?
I would buy it, but my 1040 is buried deep in storage. I cant test it (unless I come across another 1040.
Anyway someone who needs one can try it and let us know.

Thanks.

I have a test harness that I use for my predriver reproduction boards, so if someone wants to invest $14 to find out whether the UTSource parts are workable, I'd be happy to test one. And/or do a tear-down to see how it's made, but after that I couldn't guarantee the part would still be good.

I suppose it's possible that I'll be biased (pardon the expression) against the UTSource parts, but heck, I've spent more time convincing people their predrivers DON'T need replacement than I have pushing my repros.

And if someone has a 640, the IG02950 is even cheaper - like $5.50. Perfect for destructive testing ... amd who knows it may work in the 1040, so you save $4 ...
The thing that worries me though, the ysay its used. And they have 10+ ...
How does one get their hands on several dozen of unobtanium chips ???
Cool.

I agree as well. $10 is good to pay because you may very well get at least one good driver, and 1 good output IC.
And I did find some yamaha replacements from an overseas company that I was able to use on my 1040. I will see if I can find where I got them.

UTsource was the one I used, and got the IG02950 driver modules from them. They were new units. I did a bit of research and it appears that the IG02950 is just a bit heavier than the IG02940, and 02930. I did some cross reference and it seems the pinouts were the same. I bought 2 to fix my 1040, along with 2 STK0080II. It turned out that only the outputs were bad, so I never used the drivers.
If Chasix is going to Frankenfest, I may bring one of the driver there for him to try.

Despite living a heck of a lot closer than Brooklyn, I'm an FF virgin, but I have aspirations to show up this time if non-audio life doesn't get in the way.

I'd bring a predriver repro for show & tell, but I just put the two I had "in stock" into a CR-1040, and I don't think I want to haul that along. (Although anyone can find my lousy snapshot of a repro - if you search ebay for IG02950, one of the vendors - not UT - was sleazy enough to steal the picture!)

BTW, the used-in model (and potentially the electrical specifications) goes in REVERSE order of the predriver part number. That is, IG02950 was used in the CR-640, and might not be able to withstand the higher power supply voltages in the higher receiver model numbers. IG02940 was in CR-840s, and IG02930 was in CR1040s. Did Sanyo really supply different modules for the three part numbers? I've no idea.

I have ordered parts from UT when I had no other acceptable choice. (Not predrivers, of course.) I have no complaints. I do think there is a high risk of counterfeiting, especially with semiconductors, but I have no reason to believe that UT themselves are intentionally counterfeiters. My guess is that they're just go-go business types who will do "whatever it takes" to address a market demand.

The other outfit that claims to offer IG02950 on the 'bay, u-barn, is another story. They are the ones who appropriated my picture for their listing, even though the picture doesn't even show an IG02950. So, it seems to me that they are an intentionally fraudulent operation.

I too have bought lots from UTsource without issue- I have however read on other sites that they have passed off legit that were counterfeit, roll the dice.

Back from the dead (or is that continuing to be dead - cos the CR1040 is still DOA) - now the predriver IG02930 is @ $7 or $42 shipped for 5 -

10 is even cheaper per unit (if someone wants to do a collect and buy and test and cut one open and what not - I'm in for it)

Perfect for destructive and non destructive testing dontcha think ...

I've been off this site a bit of late. I'll have to try to get on it often.

Thanks.
Srinath.
