What to pair with an old Mosfet power amp?

Lucky enough to pick up an old power amp for only $30. Guy said it was used for parties, events, etc. He said it turns on but he hasn't tried it with speakers so who knows. It's a Mosfet amp rated at 300 watts (per channel?) according to the label on it. Made by an Australian company called Neilson Electronics who I think made mainly broadcast and PA equipment. Yet to plug it in to give it a go. Was an impulse purchase but curious to see if it's any good.

What should I be looking to pair with it as a preamp? Does a tube preamp go well with this? Any magic formula for this kind of thing?

Cheers

Some people like a tube pre with ss power amp... It depends on the front end. Cd players output enough that a passive pre may be used and are affordable.

also depends on the input impedance of the amp and what the preamp can drive. Some old ones won't work into the typically low load of a solid state power amp. Others are fine.
