What TT's do you folks have

The SL-1200 is more of a DJ TT and as such is quite rugged and durable, true the arm is designed for 7 grams load rather than .2 grams needed for finer cartridges like the Korestsu Rose etc.

It does its job pretty well and sice my I have put my investment on a Accuphase DP 70 CD player, I really have no option of investing in a costlier TT.

Radiolee,

The Sansui did use laser to scan tracks and it would do random order like CD players. It was really a good TT but sadly my younger cousin decided to try its arm manualy and totally ruined it.

Yamaha-
Do you happen to recall the model #?

I don't think the Marantz would work too well manually either(!)

Been about five years now, will dig up the manual and get back to you. Pity as it was a nice TT and really tracked problematic records pretty well.

As of Today I have:

A Well Tempered Classic with graphite tonearm - purchased used this morning. Awesome.

A Dual CS2215

A Dual CS501-3

A Garrard Zero 92 (at the office)

& a Denon DP-47f which I recently purcahsed. I like the Dual CS2215 better so it's on Ebay

Marantz 6025
Craig 5101

I only have 1 belt and it is on the Marantz workhorse. Where can you get belts?

Better place to get belts

These folks seem to offer exceptional service AND excellent prices on TT and cassette belts.

Same belt the above guys get 12.00 for is 3.29.

I used their 800 number at 8:00 last night and got an email ten minutes later from a real live person confirming my order.

That's service!

Dingusboy

Hows about giving us the low down on the Well Tempered.

Grumpy,

the quick & dirty, it's absolutely fantastic. I'm not kidding. Wow, Wow, Wow.

I'll post a real (or at least my attmept) review with pics soon. My wife went out of town for a few days and took the digital camera with her.

Yet another Empire TT

Meant to post this here a few days ago and instead managed to post it over in the SOTA thread...

Really nice suspended German Papst AC motors in these TTs, and the whole thing is built like a tank. Motor has a big motor-run oil cap under the deck. Speed adjustment is via a stepped pulley under the lower left cover, nothing the break. Great platter bearing with a spiral groove machined up the side to recirculate the lubricant - currently using straight STP oil treatment. Red button at front of deck is the power switch - it holds a little 120V bulb that is burned out, I just need to order a replacement from Allied Electronics. Belts are are somewhat odd with only Elex Atelier having the right size so far.

Turntable - 'renovated' 1960's Empire 208
Tonearm - Moth RB250 with RB300 end stub, Incognito rewire, Expressive Machining heavy weight (not shown in picture)
Cartridge - Grado Reference Platinum with Sonata retip
Phono stage - Bottlehead Seduction beta unit
Tweaks - DIY sandbox platform, rope caulk and constrained dampening under aluminum top plate, silicate loaded latex coating under platter.

Previous TT was a severely tweaked Pro-Ject 6.1

Next steps - Working on a wall-mount shelf for TT + phono stage. Will build a reworked phonostage with better PS and stepup transformers someday after I finish the 845:845 amps.

Thanks/pRC

That Empire is rather lovely looking isn't it :-) I'm guessing they were never exported to the UK. I've seen em mentioned a few times over on the Vinyl Asylum, but have never seen one for sale here in the UK.

Anyway - my deck:

Michell Focus One
Rega RB250 with OL Structural Mod
Shure V15VxMR cartridge

The pic below was pinched off the Michell site - clearly it ISN'T my own deck as the one in the pic has an SME arm:

Otherwise the same - the red suede integral mat is a lovely thing.
Oh yeah - it sounds great too :-)

Oh and I swapped the original springy feet for the hard pointed Gyrodec feet and trusted isolation to the stand its sitting on. The springy feet were disconcertingly springy in my experience and to my ear it sounds better without this frankly crude form of suspension.

Linn Lp12 very early dated 1975......(SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL)changed
the feet for some really big rubber ones (can't remember what there called at the moment) made a big differance though

It now has a SME 3009II improved arm and K9 cart.
took the audiotechnica arm off

Dual CS-5000 here too...needs new interconnects. Has a new Grado Prestige Black cart on it. It's hobbling along on spliced plugs at the moment. Anyone know how to get the plinth off the base so I can solder new wires in there?

Here's mine...

I'm the proud owner of a new (to me) and well cared for Linn Basik TT w/ Akito I tonearm. Right now I'm making do with the Grado Green cart that came with it, as I'm a poor college student and my budget is shoestring at best :( . That will be my first upgrade when money allows. At 24 I am living proof that there are some young kids out there that still love vinyl :D . Love these forums!

My current list of tables include:
1. Technics 1200MK2 with a heavier aftermarket headshell and a Denon DL-103 MC cartridge. Sounds very good.
2. Thorens TD 160 in process of newer arm(any suggestions?)
3. Thorens TD145
I listen to ALL my vinyl on either Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic headphones

Great thread, great pics guyz!

Used to run Dual and Technics TT's but my Sansui affliction has taken over now my stereo table is a manual Sansui 4050c that is mint, modest table but I dig it, it wieghs about 30lbs. Mounted is a Shure V15 III that I have several NOS tips for. My CD-4 (quad) table is the Sansui FR3080 that is mint. A very modest table but since I only play CD-4 records on it, it will do just fine. Mounted is a NOS AT SL20A limited edition CD-4 cart that is rare to say the least. I have Audioquest Sidewinders attached that made a big difference to the CD-4 reproduction over stock cables. So when folks say that cables don't matter I have to scratch my head.

How bout some pics of those bad boys. I would love to see em.
