What tubes are you running with your Dynaco ST70

My ST 70 is an original “cloth transformers” with the top of the line VTA Driver Board, (mode selector) matched trio of Mullard drivers and quad of Mullard output, and that’s a fantastic combo..

Other output tubes I’ve used and liked:

JJ pre burned 34s
EH reissue 34s

That would be my guess. He does get some interesting tubes from time to time though.

I found this thread and it seems worthy of a kick.
For the last 8-10 months, I have used the EH 6CA7 which sounded good until I changed speakers. The Canton Karats aren’t really bright but the metal domed tweeter.....yea, maybe a tad bright.

So I put the Chinese Nesstones back in and the presentation is warmer and more balanced. They are making some mechanical noises at warm up and cool down that concern me. $40 for a matched quad and I didn’t expect much.

Other options for a warm, smooth sounding tube?

I had the opposite effect; the EH6ca7's sounded bright/harsh with my Klipsch Quartets, I found some Heresy's vintage 1980 and tried the EH's again and they sound fantastic through the Heresy's even though I disliked them with the Quartets...

The Mullard reissue el34 or JJ el34's have a more classic laid back tone, I use them and they are both recommended. BTW, I have a nice pair of 7199 driver tubes.

I ran JJ KT-77's for about 8 years. They had a nice balanced tone. The EH-6CA7's have a better bottom end. I don't find the EH's sounding harsh or bright though. But a.l certain tube can sound different in different amplifiers.
