What type of remote for ps1 cdplayer?

I figured Id give a shot at the ps1 cd player as i found one dirt cheap. I bought a ps2 dvd player remote which is what i thought you are supposed to use but it has no infrared adapter for the ps1.

What model can I use?

According to Mick Feuerbacher's site, it seems that you use purpose built IR adapters that plug into the controller slot. Might have to pick one up on eBay. But if you do, your PS2 remote will work fine. And Mick has a write-up on how to install it inside the case so it doesn't look goofy and half-assed sticking out the front of your PSX, among his many other mods. I've been looking for one of these casually for a while now, but every time I find one, I've got no cash on hand. Oh well...sooner or later. They're always at the GWs around here for $5 or so. Good luck with your project.

Still having trouble finding information on the infrared adapter. Anyone else have info on how to make one/aquire one?

The early PS2s did not have an IR receiver and the remotes came with ones that plugged into the controller port. Hit up your local game stop and see if they have any used ones in stock, there should be a remote and a little black box to go with it.

I just use a wireless controller.

You must have the small black transmitter that plugs into the front of the PS1 in order to use the PS2 remote. I have a transmitter and a remote. If you're interested pm me.

^This is the one I use with my PS1. You only utilize the play, stop, and R1/L1 buttons towards the bottom.

As luck would have it, I found one of these today at my local GW after months of keeping my eyes peeled. As a bonus, it was half off, so I paid $3.50 instead of the marked $7. I think I'm going to try to do the internal IR reciever (when I find one cheap,) and in the meantime, I think I'll try the buttons in the case top as well...maybe some of the other mods at Mick's site. If it turns out well, I might post a thread about it.
