Thanks for responding. There is no "RE" in the dead wax. The lack of that and the matrix numbers that I listed before are what led me to believe it was an original. But the fact that it has Young's name on the cover and a tan label make me wonder. I'm trying to find a reissue with which I can compare.
Depending on who pressed it, they probably used the original stamper with updated labels when it was repressed. Not uncommon back then.
Would that mean it’s an original of the remixed album or would it still be thought of as a repress? In other words, if the album was remixed, wouldn’t there be a new set of master tapes from which to print? Or would this simply be a remastered version and so a repress after all? I think I’ve answered my own question but would be interested in the thoughts of those who are more kknowledgeable.
An original pressing of your album would be on the 2 tone orange/tan label and have no name on the cover, yours having the name and more importantly the solid tan label make it a 3rd pressing from 1970ish. They used the same stampers from the original press as they did on your copy, but the label change makes yours a later repress.
Thanks. I had thought as much but the matrix numbers and the lack of “re” in the Deadwax made me think maybe I had an original with a misprint label AND cover. It was unlikely, but I had hoped. If I knew his first album better, all of these questions would have been answered by my ears! At least it made me give it a more serious listen. Good stuff there. Now got to find me an original so I can hear it as NEIL intended!
So the repress is better. Or at least partially. Nice!
