What Would YOU Choose From These 3?

Hi again Here's my problem, as you are probably aware I buy solely from auction sites....Well the problem I just can't stop looking for all the ones I want as you know there will be a pretty good chance you will find what your looking for on 'Ebay' be it more expensive, but hey if you buy this way plus pay for postage no use getting somnething cheap & nasty...So my delima is I have currently found fairly pricey items and are struggling with which one to go for...

First we have U2's 'Achtung Baby' rare Ex. with uncensored sleeve.

next Paul McCartney's Self titled in Ex. also

and last but not least 'Music From The Big pink' The Band. Ex.

Have you got them do you even like them, and what would you pick???

I love Achtung.
Probably wouldnt listen to the others to even in perfect condition...just not interested in those:)

The Band, for sure! Look at that, two posts, two totally different answers. :D

But seriously, Music from Big Pink is about as good as The Band got.

Gee talk about make it easy...kidding. But I will say The Weight is a great song by The Band, and 2 days ago scored The Band self Titled, good song on that one The night they drove old Dixie sown?? But great songs I like on Achtung..One and Mysterious ways....so thats one a piece so far..and none for PMc...Maybe I'm amazed...great track too.

Music From Big Pink would be my first choice (actually only choice) of these three. Freaking Classic. I have the Simply Vinyl 180 Gram.

Paul McCartney's first never caught on with me, one great tune and a bunch of filler. As a matter of fact, I can not think of one tune from that recording other than Baby I'm Amazed.

Ram got played much, much more, back in the day. Find a copy of Ram and enjoy!

As for U2, I lost interest after The Joshua Tree. Even though I believe Eno and Daniel Lanois were involved with Achtung Baby the sound and songs do nothing for me.

Cheers

I think the U2 record is the hardest of the three to find on vinyl. My wife got me a copy of the first McCartney record, and it definetely sounds DIY-kinda like amateur hour. The Band record is really good, but I see those quite frequently. The U2 would be my choice.

Music From Big Pink. It's got it all.
Thought-provoking lyrics, excellent musicianship (did you know that even the horns on that album were all played by the Band?), down-home authentic production values and tons of attitude and soul. There isn't a wasted moment on that entire record.
In addition, it has no whiney, little Irishman with a Messiah-complex, and no "Do-it-Yourself" multi-billionaire within a thousand miles of it.

"McCartney" gets a bad rap, but I enjoy it a lot. It's a very subtle, cute record. Much like the Beach Boys "Smiley Smile". Paul's first solo isn't much of a statement compared to the Beatles work and John's powerful "Plastic Ono Band", but it has charm and is enjoyable.

I too like to buy vinyl off the 'bay, but man is it risky! Sometimes you don't know what you're gonna get and how it's gonna be packed. You really have to put some trust in the particular seller and hope it's what they say it is. I've gotten burned a few times, like cardboard being taped directly to an otherwise perfect copy of Zappa's "Ruben and the Jets", and another record being completely shattered. That's just a couple examples. Your best bet is always local record shops, thrift stores and garage sales. That's more of a hunt, but it's really rewarding when you find a nice copy of "Two Virgins" for fifty cents (me, a couple weeks ago).

E-PREY is your local record shop when you live in Gisborne, New Zealand as our much loved OP does!

Just based on content and not availability or collectibilty, and from the POV of someone who has all three;

The Band Big Pink is all great.

McCartney has only one great song (Maybe, not Baby).

I probably haven't listened to that U2 in ten years. Funny that the Joshua Tree should be mentioned. I heard a song from that album the other day and was reminded that U2 used to be great.

First I would grab Big Pink. Best imho of the 3 and fits more listening moods for me. A closesecond would be U2. Also a great album. I would agree with whoever said get Ram instead of Paul's self titled. If Ram was the 3rd, I might have to pick it over the U2.
This has nothing to do with difficulty of obtaining vinyl or any other factor other than the music.

Myself, I love the McCartney LP. It's a fun album.

Music from Big Pink is great too.

U2... meh, could take it or leave it.

Me, I'd go with McCartney. But it's a close tie with Music from... Can you get them both?

Gee...this is a tough one for a change. If the Macca is as DryBasement says, grab it. However, while not a bad effort, it is nothing special IMHO.

The other two are excellent. Achtung Baby brought me back to the U2 camp (and I left just as quickly when ZooEuropa came around). Music From Big Pink is likewise fantastic.

I love all three albums, but Music from Big Pink is in a class by itself. That album simply gets better and better the more you listen to it. It has an etherial quality to me which always made it seem like one of those rare albums that wasn't recorded, but simply descended from the heavens.

Thanks Olson, Have you ever checked out, just for curiosity sake our own national auction site? www.trademe.co.nz this is the majority of what I have came from (less chance of losing it, if its already in the country :D) There is alot for a buck but condition is a major factor and the titles aren't for me too in that price range. Have a look

Thanks for all your replies, and at this point leaning towards Big Pink then U2 as the Macca I believe is not a first pressing, and I have heard of Ram so will also look at that one down thew track.......The Band's song The Weight is one I am currently learning to play on guitar.Love that song
