What would you say is the best sounding vintage Receiver

Matter of opinion. I owned and used.
Mac 1900
Sansui 9090db
Pioneer Sx890
Integra Tx 85
Marantz 2215
Yamaha Cr1020.Philips but dont recall model.
And a few IA,s from Onkyo.
The only I didnt like was the Marantz. The Onkyo gear has stayed.

Leftfield..Armstrong 626

It's pushed out
HK-630
Hk-330b
Sansui 2000
Sansui Au-505
Sansui 210 (Great needs high sensitivity speakers though)
Qed a270
Sansui 331
Plus a few more besides..

I have a hk-930 awaiting repair, it'll be very interesting to see how the Armstrong compares.

The best sounding receiver is always the one I just repaired and hope to never see again. Don't own any myself except my speaker tester on the front counter, a NAD 7020. If a bad speaker takes it out who cares.

Can we have an easier question like,,,,What was the best band or who is the most beautiful woman or for those of us who have kids,Who's your favorite child?

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Sherwoods, especially the S-7900a. That was TOTL in the mid 1970s, 60W/Ch, sounds great, and was probably the last mass market receiver made in the USA (in Chicago, a little over a mile from the hospital where I was born). I bought one a few years ago with the idea I’d restore it, but it sounded great dead stock, so the only thing I did was replace the dial pointer light. The S-8900a is the same receiver, but FM only - the 7900a also has AM.

Sansui 800...just a robust, solid sound
+1,,, I just dug out the war bride I brought home in '69, and recapped it 10 years ago today!!! I dug it out yesterday to try out a TT I was rebuilding, and can't shut it off!!! This little receiver will make you want one...
It's also how I found the SS forum on AK, altho i usually hang out on the tube forum,,,

Power is but one part of the whole system, and to isolate it as a sole definitive as the "best" would require the other parts to be included as mitigating factors in the end assessment. Simply put...couldn't be tested with any validity.

I've only owned a half dozen or so vintage amps and demo'd a handful more, but out of those, the sansui 5000a really stands out.

TR 2075!! I picked up my completely restored Tandberg TR-2075 MK11 yesterday after a 6 month wait list to get it in. it's been years since I have been able to hear this one again. But I am noticing that my phono input is MUCH QUIETER than my tuner. I don't have a DB meter, But I would say when the phono is at 75% Volume, it is actually about as loud as the Tuner at 25%. Is this normal?

Had a few, still have a few. I like my Mac 1900 and Bozaks speakers the best. Warm wooly sound perfect for vinyl listening, warms up CDs and is velvet with FM.

cool thread! count me in. here goes my beautiful, insane SS gear journey (uhh addiction):
1982: HK505/500 Combo
That starts it all…then..
-myNAD )7020 series 20 kicks ass!) phase,
-that quickly turned to bi-amped M60 Yammies pushing my ads L1230’s
-B&K ST120/mk3 combo
-Crown D300 I’m happily deaf now
-popped my tube cherry w/ST70/pas3x
oh, SS thread sorry..
-back on track here…
nowadays, I rotAte all of the above (& much more) and stay up all night every coupla months reconfiguring and frankensteining gear racks while listening to my vinyl that me & big brother bought at Sam Goody’s at Monmouth Mall back in the 70’s that sat in our 9 crates for a zillion years until i retired at 53 a few years ago. I love gear man! It has its hooks in me DEEP! And it’s beautiful!
I have to go now…I got the Moodies’ original 7 records a few days ago from an online auction and my Kirksaeter Monitor 50’s just popped out of a box that landed on my front porch.
…letters are written, never meaning to send…..
thanks for letting me share
