Some kind of busted up Radio Shack receiver that sounds fine. A busted to **** JVC cd player that sounds fine, and a humongous pair of Electro-Voice "Marquis" speakers that are not busted up at all and sound just fine.

Update- I have three of these, so now I have X55AV's on Main L & R and Center, and a pair of Pro77AV's (Optimus version of Minimus-7) on the two rear channels.

As before, I just have a 5' length of 22 ga insulated stranded hookup wire for the FM antenna, and it picks up quite well even though my shop is all metal.
For AM I have the "Ultimate Loop", and it does quite well, though I have to position it away from my fluorescent lights. Keeping it only 4'-5' away is enough to avoid noise. And it picks up better near the window.

No shop as of yet, but at work, a Pioneer SX-7730 with walnut Realistic Minimus 7, and now that the weather is warming, on the patio room (where I do most of my repair and cleaning) a Marantz 2215B, Toshiba SD-3980, with Optimus Pro-LX5II. Both are low volume systems but can kick a little butt when needed. :yes:

my good stuff is in the Music Room and Dining Room Closet, and my "shop" isn't quite so sophisticated! I rotate equipment around as I clean it out, but the "test" units will be: Yamaha CR-220 (how's that Mr. Merrylander?!), some small Polk R 15 speakers (wall hung), Yamaha headphones (the wonderful Bellini HP-2), and a small vintage 1992 Sony CD player...basically just some equipment to test successful output.
Where can I get that great test equipment!?

Mark W...I'm in for that shortwave receiver of yours!...listened to shortwave since I was a wee-lad...still listen to the "guys" (all around the US) at the "old military radio net" on 3.885 mHz on Saturday morns at 5 am. This is great fun to see what everyone has in their "shops".

I get the prize for the ugliest shop equipment. The speakers are EV Dominators and a pair of Yamaha S6115s, compliments of uncle sam. The tuner is a 20 dollar garage sale Sony. That's my Clark forklift holding the pallet rack up that it sits on. Sometimes my neighbors don't like me.

When I listen to Rush Limbaugh, I keep wishing there was a better source than AM radio. NPR sound quality on FM is good, but it's hard to tolerate the content at times.
