Ok i own a Technics SL1700 TT since new(1976) it been serviced a few times so it,s in top shape,,but i keep on hearing and reading about the Technics SL1200 MK2,,so is the MK11 that much better a unit and if so why,I see some mods to the appeaence and control location but what else have they done to make want to own one,,thanks

The specs are the same. What the MK2 adds is quartz lock and adjustable VTA. If you are satisfied with the speed accuracy on your 1700 and you can live without VTA, there's nothing to gain from a MK2. Specifically regarding the 1200mk2, you realize that it's fully manual--it doesn't have auto-return like your 1700.
