I have been poking around, looking at sound bars for a possible LED TV purchase in the coming months. When making the rounds at the "usual suspects," I always used to pay a visit to Boston's site. After my last visit, I don't know why I bothered.
Their current offerings are dismal. Their bookshelf speakers are uninspiring to browse through, and they all seem like similar variations on the same concept (3.5", 5.5", 6.5" woofers)--there seems to be little differentiating their A series and CS series. The floorstanding speakers likewise have very few models to offer. There is no longer anything like their larger speakers with decent sized woofers. They have no soundbar. They have only one home theater system that is a set of 5.1 separates. They quit their automotive line years ago. They don't even have a higher-end line like they used to (Lynnfield, was it?). And I didn't even see the usual Bluetooth or WiFi speakers most companies have (although I did not look for them specifically), nor any computer speakers.
They oddly have a larger number of outdoor, in-ceiling and in-wall speakers, however.
It's not the Boston we all came to know. They are part of Sound United, who also owns Polk and Definitive Technology. I almost get a sense they don't need or want Boston around anymore, as they were kind of selling to the same type of buyer who would shop for Polk (who still has a robust product line). Or, it could be that the architectural speakers is where Sound United wants to focus Boston now, pretty much giving up the following they built.
Not really an important post here...just wondering where they lost their way, and if anyone noticed how far they've fallen in recent years.
