When Pioneer acquired Phase Linear . . .

Check out this webpage. Of all the stuff I've ever read about Phase Linear, this is the first time I've ever heard of this. Is this true? Pioneer acquired, (and continued to build), Phase Linear amps? :scratch2:

If so, is there any way to tell if one has a "Pioneer-built" unit?

Yes, Pioneer bought Phase Linear. Bob Carver used the money to start Carver, I believe Pioneer sold PL gear until 82.

Yup. PL-L1000 and the Phase linear-tracker (model escapes me) are identical.

Interesting . . . I wonder if there's any way to tell if my old 400 is a Pioneer or PL?

The Series-II Phase linear stuff was during the Pioneer time. They acquired it and the Pioneer champagne series gear was designed to go with the PL stuff, like the PL-L800, SX-9, etc.
