Where do you obtain/procure your Digital Content? And why?

So, here we are in 2024, and the times may or may not be a changing! Some make a point that streaming is replacing physical digital content (CD's, SACD's, HDCD's, DxD's), but they are still being produced! As we noted in the thread 'CD Manufacturing Technology - Current State of the Art or Dead-end?' there can be many reasons why folks still want to have physical media.

So, let's take the current pulse of the Audiokarma Community and start this poll by casting a vote for your 3 primary means of obtaining or procurring digital content. Then feel free to elaborate on why you use what you use.

Again, everyone has a reason for what they do, and this poll is only meant to document what we all do and why. Not to critique what someone else does!

I guess I'll start this off with; yes I do favor the 'underground'! I belong to a 'Club' whos membership fee helps support their file hosting.

Since I don't want to endanger the reputable aspect of Audiokarma by promoting any type of illicit activity (and please take the hint folks), the club shall remain nameless.

And if you think I don't care about the artists and their well being, I very frequently buy my content direct from the Labels and from the Artists through Bandcamp. I also download content I'm particularly interested in but can't find elsewhere from HDTracks, but never above 96Khz/24bit. I don't find anything higher to be of value for the extra cost.

So you sometimes pay for the music you listen to?

Yep, I do pay one way or another (hosting fees included), but in general I don't send all my money to BMG. And no, I don't do Torrents because I don't feel comfortable with the provenance of the content. Bugs abound!

And like I said, sometimes I like to give it direct to the Label or Artist via Bandcamp.

Oh, and yeah, I maintain a Pandora Plus account for Musak around the house!

Since I listen at work for 12 hrs and play it in my truck the other 15 min I spend driving to and from....most of my digital content is from SIRIUS. I very rarely DL anything.

It all depends on what (band) I am listening to. I either have it on AMHD, new or used CD.

Often it's vinyls.

i've gotta be difficult as well as i used to download a lot . now i stream alot. but i have been re building my physical media as well. buying cds as well as vinyls.
