WHERE TO GET ADVENT GRILL CLOTH.....

The Dorr site has the most accurate cloth but very expensive https://dorrmillstore.com/index.php/site/products/category/foundation_cloth/17 12 x 12 thread count for the primitive linen. I used this Amazon and my wife really liked them and pretty acoustically transparent. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075Q9CV33/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks. I was looking for something reasonably close and reasonably priced to complete the rebuild of my 4 OLA and this fills the bill nicely.

The original Advent grille cloth is about an 18 TPI and I still haven't been able to find cloth with that thread count. I have seen material pretty much identical but not a coarse enough weave or, too coarse a weave.

I have a real early pair from 1970 waiting for new cloth.

Not sure if you can even find 18 TPI anymore Doug. I finally gave up and settled on that 12 TPI dorr mill primative linen foundation cloth and yeah it's pricey. At one point I had a bag full of samples that would be suitable substitutes for far less $$$.

I used this same cloth for two sets of Large Advents and it came out very nice. Be aware the it comes pretty creased due to the shipping but once pulled tight on the front panel you don't see the creases anymore. I did spend some time trying to steam out the creases prior to stretching it over the panel, but I don't really think the steaming made any difference.

I hated the original cloth so when I decided to re do my OLAs I found this guitar amp cloth. It is gold and black but reads green....it is way cool I think. The cloth was pretty thick so I used Gorilla Clear glue and used ammo boxes to hold it down while it dried. I did not have the original badges so I had a guy on Ebay that does almost any brand repops. The old cloth was so bland and the new retro-funky cool.

NIce hold down weights. The cloth looks great, better than original in my opinion. Great restore, look brand new.

Do

you have a link to where you got that cloth? It looks good. I’m currently searching for a replacement cloth for a pair of Bozaks and that might work. I also bought those replacement badges from a guy on eBay. Very happy with them.

You quoted the link to MojoTone, where I got it.

I hate that dreary stock cloth for sure. It only looks good for a year or two before it starts to turn yucky looking. Using those ammo boxes was easy; it was all I had that was heavy enough.

I had enough to do my custom KLH 6s as well.

For sure, stock did not age well even with care. The cloth you used really classes them up to me, very attractive, graces the OLA well. Couldn't help but comment on the ammo boxes, had to laugh, something I've done with them too.

Look great on the KLH too.

The Mojotone stuff is a lot more fun than most of the cloth from back then. One of the exceptions is the Marantz Imperials. The "G" models had that funky foam that turned to dust but the regular models had a tough rigid cloth that still looks good.

KLH 6s on top of Imperial 6s. I do love how the Mojotone stuff sparkles with the camera flash.

Wow. I thought this thread was dead like Fred.

Has anyone tried any spay on fabric cleaner, then vacuum? I saw another thread where the guy used Resolve carpet spay foam, then brushed it gently. I'd think using the vacuum hose would work as well.

I actually tried it after I decided to recover mine. The fabric was so decayed it just fell apart when it got wet. I guess it depends on the condition of the grill. I have seen about 15 pairs over the past few years and it was all pretty crappy. If one really wants to make them look stock again (I hate the dreary color and weave of the fabric) then it is just easier to find something new as close as can be found.
