Where to get SME 3009 with fixed headshell rewired?

Well John depending how much is still hanging out the base I would take this opportunity to get rid of the old interconnects and funky plug. Look on eBay they sell a few kits to convert the 3009 base to common RCA jacks, and then you can use interconnects of your choice. The leads coming out of the base don't need to be nearly as long to use this kit. The conversion kit doesn't cost much at all, and the factory parts will sell for more than your spending.

The wire is cut right at the base. We cannot get to any of the tonearm wire. You can see it, but just cannot get to it to attach to anything.
Ok got it....
It wont work for a easy fix, but I would still convert it with the new rewiring. Good luck.

+1 on moogi1964's reco - SME tonearms in Canada. Can't get much better than Alfred. I would also second 4-2-7's reco on the conversion of the 3009 base to common RCA jacks. I'll post of pick of mine later. The connection for the RCA termination is in the screening can. Allows me complete freedom to use what ever RCA cable I want to use. I have two of these arms and STS Turntables in TN modified this one to have that termination.

I'm concerned about this blanket recommendation to convert to RCA jacks at the bottom of the screening can. If one does this and the arm is mounted on a suspended chassis turntable those nice RCA cables will prevent the sub-chassis from having the movement it is designed to have. The platter/arm chassis will want to move and be limited by dragging that big snake around with it connected to the base of the arm.
Look at the way Tonyqt set up his arm. The wiring from the arm goes to a terminal strip on the sub-chassis and that terminal strip is jumped over to RCA jacks with a loop in each wire to allow free movement of the sub-chassis.
I talk about this because a later tonearm design addressed this issue. The Magnepan Unitrac I tonearm has a very flexible, shielded, 4-conductor cable about 6" long from the RCA cable to the tonearm connector plug and the intent is to mount the RCA cable to the turntable and allow the flexible cable to permit the sub-chassis to work as intended.
If your tonearm install will be permanent, you could run some extra wire out the base of the arm and get to the back of the table and install RCA jacks if you want your choice of cables for the TT.

As Blue stated on some suspended tables you might have an issue with the conversion but the original SME connections are
far from ideal. I will be doing a continuous run when I have a 3012 rewired with RCAs terminating.
