Which AU-111 is this?

Hi all, I bought an AU-111 from Japan before I learned that there was an AU-111G/vintage.

The back of the one johnny_fever posted here: https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/sansui-au-111g-vintage-2001-tube-amp.476469/ is labeled “AU-111 Vintage”

His post states, “Its the AU-111G Vintage manufactured in 2001 with a production run of 100 units.”
He also states, “Sansui also made a AU-111Vintage model in 1999 with a production run of 200 units”

The back of my unit doesn’t say AU-111 Vintage like his, nor does it say AU-111G Vintage. It just says AU-111. My lettering is gold though. I guess I’m not 100% sure what I have.

Also, the metal plate on the back says 100v, but the gold writing just below it says 100-117-240. Do I need a step-down transformer if I live in the US, or not? Don’t know which label to believe :)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Yours looks to be the second version of the '64-71 series, the first ones had two tone knobs. It is not a vintage or AU-111G, it you do a Google search you will see the difference. Here is a site with some of the history: http://www.sansui.us/AU-111.htm

If you bought the unit from Japan it will be set to 100v and you will need a step down transformer or have it reset to 120v. by moving the taps (there is some info here on AK if you use the search function or someone can likely send you the guide for how to change the voltage).

Your au-111 is neither au-111 vintage nor au-111 vintage 1999 model. Those model have banana plug speaker binding post terminals. Your is the old screw type binding post.
As for voltage selector, you need to open up the top cover to see, do your unit have the voltage selector locate left side of the transformer.

Open the top and take a picture of the inside for us?

Looks like an original AU-111 not a remake model. Speaker terminals are the old type. The remakes are 100V only. Yours is a multi voltage mains with switchable taps on the inside. The 1999 / 2000 models have Vintage or G written on the rear plate.

Hi.

This is an old one, not a member of the Vintage series.

The serial number should allow you to determine the month and year of manufacture. See below:

“Thanks to member Stene, we have the decoding logic for serial numbers.

aaymm####

where 'aa' is the manufacturing line number,
'y' is the last digit of the year (you have to know which decade it is)
'mm' is the numerical representation of the month
and
'####' is the four digit serial number for that unit on that manufacturing line.

You can go to the Audio Heritage Sansui site and look under integrateds to find out about the various models. My bookmark link is to the translation from the original Japanese but whenever I post it it links to the Japanese version so you might need to use Google Translate.

If I recall correctly the Vintage has silver feet and markings on the faceplate the G gold. The Vintage and Vintage G, as I recall were a quite limited, each about 200 units, the originals were much more common. The basic design, I have been told, was more or less the same for all of these.

Cheers.

Is your machine from the 1967 run? Yours has the same cosmetics as mine and my machine has 4 bios pots and the multi tap power transformer for multi voltage. Mine is a December 1967 machine.
