Which cart?

Which cart is better Shure/Jico SAS or Denon

Thinking of upgrading the cart on my Kyocera PL-701. It currently has a Shure M97x on it. Would it be best to get the Jico SAS stylus, or a Denon cart from Comet supply in the same price range?
Thank you,
Doug

Why limit yourself? What is your budget. I posted a couple of days ago about how my friend bought a Nagaoka MP200 and loves it and he has tried a lot of cartridges and says that the MP200 is a keeper.

Kinda hard to answer your question, we all have our own tastes and what I like you may not. Cartridges sound as different from each other as speakers so what do you like and dislike about the M97x and what are you looking for soundwise?

I really like the detailed highs of my Acutex lpm 312. Realized today that a fellow AK'er has the Jico SAS for the M97x, and has agreed to let me borrow it for a test run.
Thanks,
Doug

Pat on the back to that fellow AK'er! and the SAS may be exactly what you're looking for too. Just one suggestion, sometimes aftermarket stylus can have cantilevers that vary in length from the original manufacturers so you might want to double check alignment after installing the SAS.

Yes, it was very nice of Gerrity to offer a loan of the the stylus. He was removing it this morning to give it to me, and the whole plastic part that you grip to pull it out pulled off, and the stylus stayed behind :yikes:
So, he jammed it back under the head shell never to be removed again.
I did get to listen to it on his table today, and it does sound very nice (even if the build quality is suspect).

Dunno what's going on with JICO, used to be they had a reputation for excellent quality but seems more are having problems lately. Hope they get their act together soon.
