Hi everyone, I'm new here but I've been browsing this forum for like everyday.
I need help to find out out what kind of cartridge I have on my tt.
Currently I have Yamaha YP-B4 with Audio Technica cartridge and Micro Seiki MB14 with unknown cartridge, I'm selling MS soon but I would like to find out what kind of brand cartridge on MS if someone can help me with it, I will highly appreciate it.
I tried both of then and I like the sound of Audio Technica more because it's cleaner and more solid bass in my opinion, most of the time I listen to trance or house records.

Thank you for quick reply and information, another question is what will be the good upgrade for Audio Technica cartridge? I want to upgrade soon for my Yamaha because it's working flawlessly and sounds pretty good. I'm thinking of AT120E but I'm open to any advice for better option.
Thanks

One point: I notice both cartridges are mounted as far forward in their headshells as that can get. That means both are probably out of alignment and not giving you their best performance, so that a comparison of the two may be misleading.

Try searching AK for "cartridge alignment," there are many how-to posts on the subject.

I also noticed that the cartridges seemed out of alignment -- too far forward in the headshells. It they actually are, that's going to affect how they sound.

Might have used a Baerwald protractor, which will result in that cartridge position. Try using Stevenson protractor (vinylengine.com articles section) and/or for the Yamaha, set the cart square in the headshell and with the distance from the stylus top to the back of the rubber washer at 48mm.

Good AT cartridges - I have a 440MLa that I think is very nice (on the net at $260). I'm lusting after a 150MLX that will have to wait until next years budget (on the net at about $370). Both are Micro-Line contact that run lite at about 1.25 grams and track through most older worn records well. They both run below the most common wear and surface scratches. I also have a AT13Ea on my Dual that is pretty nice. If you can get a nice used one and install a new stylus, that would be way cheaper (maybe $25 for the used cart and another $30 for the replacement styli)?

I have an AT-PL2x DJ cartridge that plays fine and tracks like a laser beam, but it wants to run between 3-5 grams and it's taller, so if your arm height is not easily adjustable, it won't work for you?

OBTW - the cart on your ROTEL (love their Tables :)) looks like a P mount in an adapter. You might want to go with a straight 1/2 mount design?

Thanks a lot Guys, really appreciate for all your advice and inputs.
I will definitely try to clean my LPs:) .
For my cartridge Upgrade and adjustment I will try that for sure.
But I don't want to spend too much money for it because I also have Denon DP47L at my parents house in Burma(waiting for the shipment to arrive) and thats gonna be my main player.

Thanks

I hope your folks are good packers, the idea of sending that denon scares me. TT's get destroyed on a regular basis.

Yes It's true, I've heard so many horror stories on AK about shipping TTs but my DP47 still have original box and btw:it's only have like 3-400 hours on it since I bought it in 1996 when I was living in Tokyo.
Thanks for your concern.

P.S. Do you have a 240sx? I ask because of your screen name.
