Which Cure vinyl pressings are best?

I'm interested in going back and getting some of the old Cure albums on vinyl, since I've only got them on some badly-worn cassettes as well as burned CDs at this point.

Anyone have any opinions on which pressings are the best? UK Fiction? US Elektra? The heavy vinyl reissues from recent years are way too expensive for me, so I'm interested in hearing which of the older pressings sound best (I've seen used copies of the older ones here and there for around $12-$15). Interestingly, I notice that Pornography was actually released on A&M originally and then reissued on Elektra a few years later.

Also: I wasn't sure if I should post this message in the "Music" or "Turntable" forum. What's the typical protocol regarding questions on quality of vinyl pressings?

man I wish I had my old Cure albums back! :sigh:

I wish I had them to begin with!:drool::drool:

I was inspired to seek out the old vinyl because I've been listening to the "dark trinity"--Faith, Seventeen Seconds, and Pornography--a lot as of late. I'd especially love to hear how the synths, pounding drums, and textural guitar work of Pornography sounds on wax.

I think I have most of them. I usually bought 'em when they first appeared in the Import Bin! They are all pretty easy to find, but I don't know if there is a huge difference between US and UK pressings as far as sound goes.

NZ and Ausie pressings are quite bad. Although they are on the "Stunn!" label, which looks pretty.
UK pressings for the money sound far better, but I've not hear a US pressing yet.

UK Fiction or West German PolyGram made ones would be better than the USA pressings. Worth the effort to find those in sound quality and surfaces. :tresbon:

I am not a big fan but, I remember that Love Cats sounded really good, i would like to find a copy of that one.

I have 17 seconds and Faith on Electra/Asylum and I use them to show off the bass in my system. Very Tight sound indeed. I also have Kiss Me Kiss me Kiss me and Disintergration on domestic Quix vinyl. Kiss me kiss me kiss me is awesome in the sound department a real musical fesitval, but I don't care for the way disintergration it is to muddy,I don't like the way it was mixed. I think you would be happy with the Electra/Asylum pressings if you can find original pressings.

I have UK Fiction pressings of _17 Seconds_ and _Faith_, and I think they sound quite good. My copy of _Pornography_ is Elektra, and it's not in the same league, sonically. So I guess I'm confirming what daysineuropa said above.

The three great Cure records, IMO. I've seen NM copies of the Fiction pressings go for $20, so it's worth your patience.

I don't know which vinyl pressings are best but I know what I like to hear. Their double album entitled "Mixed up" is the one I was introduced to in the 80's and I love it. Think I will put it on now.:thmbsp:

as qdrone states the bass is great especially on faith , sometimes with a flange effect
heard mixed reports about their latest lp ? anyone got it ?

I don't have any specific experience comparing them, but in general UK vinyl from the 80s is higher quality than US vinyl.
