Which interconnect do you use?

Hi, i was just wondering which interconnects you use in your systems? I have a Dynaco Pas2 and Dynaco ST-35 and I am looking for a good interconnect to hook them up. For now I am using the Van Den Hul D103 MKII, but I am not happy with it. To my ears the VDH makes my system sound dull. I hope there will be some good advice for a tube-newbie like myself.

Thanx in advance.

Go to any pro music store to get cables. They are commonly good and quite reliable. You do not need to use cables instead of equalizer.

Whatever is available. I have never heard a difference between one wire and another. Keep them short and I suspect you won't either.

I made my own using Mogami cable and Nuetrik or Switchcraft RCA connectors.
Sounds fine and ran me around $2 a foot.

I would look to your equipment for the cause. Have your amp/preamp been checked over to see if the parts in them are still in spec? Old, unrestored units can often give poor performance. Is it also possible that your speakers are a bit dull? I really doubt 3 - 6 feet of wire will solve the problem for you.

Good Luck

If this http://www.novacon.com.br/audiodyna3 c_arquivos/image019.jpg is his preamp, then I am not surprised at all that it sounds dull. Very poor choice of output circuit (or rather lack of thereof). Here is an example when you NEED "buffer" between preamp and power amp. Length of cable between preamp and buffer should not exceed 4-5 inches. RG6 cable should be good for that application.

I use Acoustic Research video cables because they are nicely made, and I got a pile of them stupid cheap at a flea market. They had de-bundled themselves so I fit them with some TechFlex and heat shrink to make them into pairs. The locking RCA plugs are nice, but they are really too large to fit properly on tightly spaced RCA jacks, such as what older equipment runs. You can't stuff 2 side by side on a PAS2 with stock jacks.

I run Synergistic Research cables because they came with the system I am using but would never have shelled out $350 /pr of ICs or $1400 for the speaker cables. That said, they are great wires.

All my other wires in various systems are Tara Labs a few AudioQuest Sidewinders, and a pair of Gronebergs that came with my Stratos amp.

None of cable options save this stupidly designed preamp from killing treble. Even 100pF of load will roll off high frequencies.

Keep it up, somebody will take the bait eventually.

I make my own for the most part, and really like the Luminous Audio Silver locking RCA plugs. They are the best sounding to my ear, and have a nice look and hold as well. I've used them with a bunch of different wire (currently a custom 75ohm designed for digital coax), but prefer anything copper or silver plate copper over straight silver.

A DIY pair of Silver plated OFC cables might get the top end back. If your handy PM me I might have some interesting cable for you.

Audio Magic Excaliber II here for sources, but DIY balanced silver coated OFC for the main rig. Balanced from Preamp to Crossovers and from the SACD to the Preamp.

I use AudioQuest Evergreens. Quite affordable and they sound great.
(In other words, they don't play games with capacitance and/or resistance like some others do.)
