Which Marantz Receiver should I get?

I don't know those speakers, but I like that idea: a vintage receiver paired with some modern, efficient speakers... That's just the kind of thing that I have going with my system.

I appreciate all the feedback!! Definitely lots to consider, but you guys have been very helpful. The guy is asking $700 for each. I think he would go lower on the price. Based on responses, I think I’m leaning towards the 2235B. I am nowhere close to the level of audio knowledge that you guys have, but I love to learn and I think it was a wise decision to post that question before buying either receiver. I’ll be re-reading it and continuing my research.
My dad had a Marantz in college. So besides loving the way they look, and how they perform based on what I’ve been reading, part of my reason to get one is sentimental and I think it’s something he and I would enjoy together. He loved his Marantz!

I’m here, just been busy working. Lots to digest in this thread, but I need the help!
Wow! There sure are a lot of things to scare someone before buying a low powered 45+ year old stereo receiver. Wonder if the OP decided to punt or jump to the Marantz forum?

Completely understand the sentimentality of the Marantz --AND like has been stated they will do nothing but rise in value.
The price you mention certainly seems a bit high unless you do a nice long demo and see if anything funny happens.
I would want to shine a flashlight to look and see as mentioned before, condition and telltale signs like corrosion or even minor rust would denote the unit(s) have lived in less than an optimum environment.
Certainly a lot to go through, but it Will start to sink in ... This thread has generated a lot of input for sure,
I just picked up an Oscope book from 1974 -geared for an instructor and laid out to make the students think, small on math, big on procedure. Im really am enjoying my $1 find today.
Now this is my sinking in period, I am on a Test equipment spree ... ohh how hard we fall, oops there went my wallet; again.
Carry on, Ak is THE place for learning this stuff. Had huge help from the McIntosh forum when I was working on my amp, the comraderie here rocks!
Take a close look at both models you mention on that bay of evil, under completed sales, real close looking at the photos/ conditions. Huge difference when someone says yea, but they are on ebay for $1500... but are they selling for $1500. <-- just a number off my head, haven't looked at Marantz lately.

If you want a real Marantz receiver. Buy a Model 18, and be done with it. That was made when Marantz built only one kind, the best available without regard to cost. And when Marantz and McIntosh were equal competition. After 1968, Marantz built every price point from budget receivers to high end.
It is a fine line between waiting for the best deal and or losing out because of hesitation.
