Which receiver should i purchase for my Boston Acoustics A400s?

Hello there everyone. Brand new member here, and i must admit right off the bat i am a bit of a newbie when it comes to audio ins and outs (awful pun intended.) I am upgrading my turntable setup from an LP120 and a pair of powered AudioEngines. I just purchased the A400s, and I know what table i want, but i am completely lost as to what receiver I should pick up for these speakers. I hope this is even the right thread to ask in, I hate to be that guy who just comes in new and posts in the wrong place! If this is the right place though and anyone has any ideas or recommendations of what i should get, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I can say that I really would not like to break bank on the receiver. Really, 300 would be the most id "like" to spend, but id go more if i just cant swing it in this ballpark. Id also prefer to get a receiver amp combo so i dont have to buy 2 separate things, and obviously im going to need phono input too. I spent too much on the speakers and have to keep my budget in line! Anyways, any help i can get, ugh it would help! Ive looked through lots of threads i can find relating to these speakers, but any receiver ive come across is usually too much $$ for me :/

Hey, Welcome to the AK. Glad you made it here. There is an Introductions Forum here on AK
if you want to say Hi over there.
The A400's are really nice speakers. I have been using a Marantz 2270, an Onkyo A7 as well as a Harman Kardon 730 and those speakers sound great with each of them. You have a lot of options. You could go with an Integrated amplifier, a pre amplifier-amp combo, or if you want AM and FM then a receiver might be better for ya. Are you looking for vintage or newer stuff??
There is quite a bit of info on the net as well as here on AK from folks that have these speakers so let the search function be your friend. Take your time and talk to some folks. We are a friendly bunch and I bet someone will be by soon to help you better than I.

Good luck in your quest Sir. Knight,

Not a simple black/white answer to your question. To be totally honest, there is no mizpah relationship between receivers and speakers. As long as your receiver has the required inputs and enough clean power to drive your speakers to levels you consider acceptable for your normal listening, then you'll be fine.

Assuming you're within their shipping area, this is a pretty good source of reasonably priced electronics. https://www.accessories4less.com/

welcome to AK, Tim. We need more info.
New or used
how loud you need to listen
where you are located, some folks search your local CL for great deals on what you might be asking about.

At your price range there are lots of possibilities but the common Stereo Lust® brands that have a high 'tax' on them just because of the brand might not be the ones to look for. These are Pioneer Sansui and Marantz. The Onkyos are at least as good and better than some and cost way less for a similar unit. All those are vintage gear.

Let us know what you are thinking and maybe consider throwing 25 into the Subscription option here at AK which opens up the Barter Town Forums for buying and selling. If you ask for a 300 buck receiver in Barter Town, only place allowed, you will be flooded with responses from folks wanting to sell receivers from 100-700 and amps and tuners and maybe even a turntable, I don't know if they fall off the rails that far anymore.

You are correct asking for a receiver...it is these units in one box

Tuner-FM and maybe AM, only
Preamp-all the switching and controls
Power Amp-the watts to drive the speakers.

The preamp and power amp in one box is an integrated amp.

Good Luck getting a nice receiver for your speakers. A Luxman R-1040 or R-1050 is what I would seek out.

Sound advice, i decided to pay the entry fee and see what people have to offer. Id much prefer to buy from someone on here than ebay or amazon!
