So I've been reading the Sansui board for a while and I've since purchased an AU4900 and an AU555a is coming. Now I have 2 questions:
1. to feed my new Sansui addiction I've identified an AU7700 and an AU777. But my wallet will only allow me one or the other. My speakers are Usher S520 and mostly I'll be driving it with my laptop (with an external DAC/amplifier) and my Samsung S3 (with an external amplifier or direct). Which one of the two would you get? What's the real difference (not specs, but in usability, sound quality, sound type, etc)

2. I just lost out on a Technics SU8600. Once I built up my funds again, I think I'd like to get a Sansui in its place. Which Sansui would be at this level? By that I mean from several fronts: a. cost when new (or inflation adjusted price today) b. build quality c. sound quality d. sound type e. anything else?

I have an Au-7700 and think it's a fantastic amp

have never used a 777

they seem to have nearly identical features ( input options, variable phono loading, etc ) but the 7700 has more power: 58 wpc vs 25 wpc
 
Hi,

Agree with bolero,i had both unit and the sound character will be very similiar. AU 777 is only 35 watt and it will have difficulity to drive some speaker. AU 999 will be much more beefier then AU 777.
 
Oh good. I just got a 7700 and transporting it home now... 3 hour trip or a little bit more. Will compare to my 4900 and hopefully a 555a is coming soon. Will update.

Would really love to find something on the level of that technics.... Although perhaps I'll keep looking for that technics

I doubt you'll ever need an improvement over that 7700, they sound really good. I like the phono preamp a lot

you may want to have it gone through by a tech to replace caps etc though

if you need more power ( mine gets to ear bleeding levels in my listening room, I won't ever need a bigger amp ) you can hook a big power amp up to it & use the preamp out
 
My darn luck...this is the 2nd Sansui and the 4th vintage amp I got that sounded good at the seller's place but something goes wrong as soon as I hook it up at my place.

The 7700 has very low and distorted left channel that happens from all inputs and with A or B outputs. Tone defeat switch is on (tone controls and filters defeated), not muted, no loudness. And there's a slight buzz that doesn't increase in volume when I crank up the volume. <sigh>

I've been trying to find a competent tech in vintage amplifier here in Indonesia. I may have to learn it myself (I've got basic soldering and electronics/electrical skills).
 
I'm back to listening the AU4900. Nice and neutral, quite clean but I think it's just a little too full-bodied and feels slow.

Compared with the Marantz 1070 that is not quite thin but just overly bright. Even Louis Armstrong's voice has this aura of brightness at the edges.

I might do some general cleaning on the 7700. How do you guys clean the board?

Which part of Indonesia u located?

Any chance near to Tg. Batam or Balai?

Probably some maintainance u need to oversee on it?
 
Tg stands for "Tanjung". There's no Tg. Batam only Batam. There is Tg Balai which is part of Karimun Island. All the places mention is under Kepri or Kepulauan Riau which is part of Indonesia.
