Which Speaker(s) Should I Choose?

speakers with ooomph

I like the A400's so much I traded away a pair of AR9ls. The space the AR 's took up was a factor along with beat up cabinets they had. My A400's are my never sell pair. Pushed by an Onkyo A10 or a Sansui 9090db at 12 o'clock load up Van Halen's Runnin with the Devil and the intro will knock your socks off. You'll swear a train is going through my house. P.S. make sure the wifes out.

Cornwalls with the Crites upgrade are a whole other ball of wax. :) IMO the Hersies would be the most work as they wold need the horn diaphragm upgrade, recapping if 30 years old or older, and a sub (with it's own problems) to sound good.

I'd just keep an eye open for speakers to come up on your local Craigslist and, if decent and within your budget, pick them up and try them out. It's fun to experiment with different kinds and come up with ones you like versus ones you don't. You can always sell off what doesn't work and typically not come out bad in the long run. I've gotten picky over what speakers I get anymore as I like all the ones I have currently....even if too many of them are sitting idle. For the 6 years I lived in the DFW area, I was fortunate to come across many great deals on speakers and a lot of them I still have. I like them all in their own respects. Now that I'm back in central Arkansas, the pickings are a little more slim now. Maybe that's a good thing as I'm back in college at 44 years old. ha.

The Diatones I know of are used in studios to emulate the sound of mono AM radios, I'd pass. :) I would go luck at those Infinites though, emit era Infinites are a good find! And those TF350s are sleepers, really you just need to go listen and see what you like. :)

The Lancers are OK, but the 4408s, 4410s, 4313bs, L96s, L112s, L80ts and L100ts (and t3s especially) are MUCH better IMO. Again I'd go listen, maybe you'll like the rolled off highs in the cone tweeter on the Lancers, but I don't, shrug.

I had Heresy's for a while and I too found them to really sing with a sub.
The highs of those horns and the bass from my Martin Logan Grotto that I added in made a great combo. Alas, I have moved onto others.

If I were you I'd stop typing and go listen to those Infinites first which are a rare find and then the DCM TImeframes, good speakers like those aren't going to hang around forever.

That may well be, I just know there is a speaker called a Diatone that is used for simulating AM radio.

But doing a google search I see they also made some very high end speakers so that one is likely excellent as well, I stand corrected. :)
