Looking back which was your favorite year when you were 12 years old or younger?

1971 when I was nine years old. There may be several reasons, but at last it is just a matter of emotion, can't put it into words.

An emotional response doesn't necessary mean it is just a matter of emotion. I'm saying this while thinking on the question cause one can separate the emotion and it's components from the reason. Twelve or younger, that is an interesting range of time in ones life. I could put it into words but might strain guidelines. I'm weighing it. Good thread.

Second grade, folks got our homework materials from our school, (4th grade for firstborn, 3rd grade for my brother, and mine) and we packed up in the 55 Bel Air to hit the road.

We traveled from Arkansas making stops in White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, Vegas, Hoover Dam, and numerous other places as we also ventured east going through Ohio, Kentucky, and so many other states. The state I enjoyed the most was the state of bliss from not being in school, and all the cool places we had been seeing along the way.

Many decades later I had stopped in San Antonio to visit Mom, who was meeting an old family friend for lunch. Since I'm on a seefood diet, sounded like a good plan.

Mom re-introduced us, the friend had been one of those stops we made on that trip decades ago.

"OH yeah, I remember you, that's when I spent the better part of second grade in the backseat of a '55 Chevy." I said.

Mom retorted, "It was only several weeks."

I smiled at them both and replied, "Like I said, the better part of second grade."

Hands down, nothing else compares.

I enjoyed my elementary school years..
My dad passed away in 1974 when I was 11, so not a good year..
1975, mom took a few of us siblings to Germany for 6 weeks.. I have lots of good, fun memories from that..
I didn't realize then, but mom was struggling with our loss and needed to go home..

Summer, 1972 (10 years old). Great age/time of life. Great music on the radio that summer. And, also, there was Denise…beautiful, dreamy Denise…whom I met at summer camp.

I suppose that it was in 1980/8yo. We took a trip to England, Wales, and the mainland. The abbeys and cathedrals left an impression on me. You think that you know history here, but ~1600 AD is cute.

1963 at 8 years old when I got my first pair of glasses. That opened up the whole world to me when I could finally see things that the other kids could.
I can imagine. Literally—you can finally see. Reminds me of a late friend of mine (he was probably born in 1944, IIRC). He did horribly in grammar school. Didn’t know why. Couldn’t read. Couldn’t take tests. Couldn’t write.

At that time, he said (in order, seemingly, not to offend kids with derogatory labels), they divided his class into groups of birds. There were Eagles at the high end. He, though, was a member—actually, the leader—of the Woodpeckers, at the other end of the spectrum. (The bird categories fooled no one.)

Anyway, eventually someone visiting the school gave him an oral (instead of a written) exam, and they discovered he was brilliant—that he had something they later called dyslexia. He was about 10.

He said his whole world blossomed after that. He was moved into the Eagles. He eventually became a high school teacher and sought-after high school football coach—as well as a martial arts master.
