Hi guys,

I've been following AK for a while and finally decided to join. I have a pair of 5002 Advent's and wanted to get a vintage receiver that can power these speakers and sounds great. Here is a list of the ones that I am considering, please let me know which one would you pick:

- Superscope R-1270 $140
- Marantz 2220 $170
- Marantz 1515 $155
- Marantz 1530 $$140
- Yamaha CR-640 $170

I don't have much money right now so I am trying to stay low budget. Thanks in advance!

i belive those are the most powerfull in your list
next decider would be function and cosmetics

if both work properly
then pick the best cosmeticaly
both will hold they're resale for a while yet
the yammi is priced slightly more than i could get around here ... but bigger cities seem to demand higher prices

Thanks for posting your opinion Orsen. Indeed, I am in Vancouver, Canada and prices are always around this ball park. Both of those look really good cosmetically. Have you heard any of the two and if you did, what was your experience?

i have not had that marantz, i have had many marantz from the 1060 to the 7200 and many in between
i have had that yammi
if one has pre amp outs..that would be deciding factor cause it allows for versitility
they sound good
in this case i prefer the looks of the yammi, but that is purely subjective, marantz lights tend to die more, but in vancouver you should be able to find direct replacements.
in thunder bay forget it :)
most of my foams come from a place in vancouver too

I'd go for the yamaha, a bit more power, 40 watts vs 30 I believe. Plus I've always liked the looks & sound of the CR series.

Had a friend who had the CR-640 and it is a nice Receiver. If resale value is not that important then the Superscope at 35wpc is a Sleeper. Superscope owned Marantz at the time and is effectively a 2235 in Superscope clothing.
I had a R-1020 which I have since given away but it sounded almost as good as my 2220.
Marantz sound tends to be warmer than the Yamaha, audition them if you can.
In TO that 2220 would be gone at that price, the 15xx's usually go for less than that cause they don't have the Tuner Flywheel

I have a CR-640 and compared to my Pioneers at least it is less warm but very clean and very detailed in the upper midrange which is very nice to listen to.
