White Sansui 2000??

Hoping to find some info out of curiosity. I acquired a Sansui model 2000 (just 2000, no A or X) and it has a white case, ironically the same material as the kitchen counters in the home I live in. I have not encountered any images of another like this and I was wondering if anyone knows about whether Sansui offered optional cases to match colors or sets. There is a sticker inside the case, stating it is case C-6, perhaps there are others. let me know if this is an interesting uncommon option, although I don't know why someone would want their stereo to look like their kitchen. I have attached images. Thanks

Arty.

Nothing interesting about it to my eyes it obviously looks like someone painted it, I'm about 99% sure Sansui did not offer this as an option.

Fwiw, I've seen a handful of speakers painted white to match the decor in ones home usually it was speakers installed in recesses in the walls of living rooms.

Here's some KLH 6's I acquired that had been installed in a living room wall and they just painted the fronts

Thanks for the reply. I honestly don't think it has been painted, but if anyone else has a Sansui 2000 and the case has the same sticker on the inside of the case at the back then we would know for sure. The texture of the white layer is what I'd expect for this material and the dark edges still show, presumably they would be covered up if someone painted it.

now that I say that, looking for the C-6 part specifically, it wasn't hard to find pics of a case of the same design that is normal wood grain.

Look closely. Honestly, it looks like plastic laminate. The kind you find used for counter tops. You can see the brown along the edge. Thats the material under the top layer of the laminate. My father worked for a counter top/cabinet shop.
He and I made a coffie table, two end tables and a couple L shaped shelving units that could be arranged in various ways using a burle butherblock laminate for me. They looked just like that other than the color.
The cutout for the front of the cabinet looks like it was done with a router with a trim bit. I have and have used various routers and trimmers for years.
This screems laminate either glued over the original cabinet, or all custom made.
Just my two cents. ;)

I agree about laminate/veneer. That is NOT a paint job, as evidenced by the edges. Whoever did it knew what they were doing.

ok so I was right originally, the frame of the cabinet is definitely original looking at other pics and both stickers still on it. I suppose there's no way to return it back to wood since the laminate replaced it entirely.

I would think that the white veneer was applied over the original walnut veneer. Removing the white veneer is possible, but very likely to damage the underlying veneer. Given the risk, and effort involved, you might be better off just finding an unmolested cabinet on ebay, etc.

I would just leave it as is, doesnt knock my socks off but nicer looking than many crappy wood restorations I have seen.
