Who Indroduced the "Thin" speaker Cabinet?

I know the KLH Model Fourteen hit the market in 1963 - it's grill is 14 x 18 inches and it is only 3.5 inches deep. Other makers seemed to introduce their own versions in the 1968-72 time frame....were there any others before the KLH Fourteen ?

The KLH Model Nine electrostatic of 1962 was of thin panel design, but it really is in a league of it's own.

Fisher made a 'picture' speaker that was, inside a Bertagni flat panel speaker. I think it dated from about the early to mid 60s.

I also remember a thin-speaker that used a driver where the magnet was turned around and placed inside the cone are to reduce depth but I can't recall what brand....seems to me it might have been Wharfdale.

I'm not sure when they were built, but B&O made some large, flat cabinets. They had a slightly sloping front baffle at the top. Not sure what drivers were used though.

Yamaha also gave it a go with their flat polystyrene "coned" drive units - a cast frame in a rectangle shape with one side flattened, where the tweeter sat.

I know Phillips produced an magnet-inside-the-cone speaker.

Says the Quad was one of the first commercially successfull. I love this article, and reference it often.
