Who's a Man and Drives a Stick-Shift

1995 240sx containing a nissan skyline motor (Turbo inline 6).

Big nasty clutch. I put it in three months ago and just now I have built up the strength to have it not make my left thigh hurt. I bought the highest torque rated setup I could get from ACT.

I love my 5 speed. I get great gas mileage considering what/how I drive.

I used to be a man I guess for many years. But now that I'm older I'll never go back to a stick.

For the record, we had only cars with manual transmissions when we lived in "the Bay Area". I had the pleasure of driving up from stop signs near UCSF many times; most notably in a 1984 Cavalier with a grotesquely heavy clutch. At least they don't get snow/slush/ice in San Francisco...

No bad weather but the hills and traffic can make you cry anyway...especially with a "heavy" clutch. You can tell the newbies/and/or idiots in SF....they drive real close up behind someone at a stoplight on one of those is-there-really-anything-on-the-other-side-of-this-hill kinda' street

Loved driving stick. Most of my cars have been. My latest, however, does not, and for all the stop and go driving I do, I gotta say I like that slushbox. Put me on a winding roads, or should I want to drive with some enthusiasm, I want a stick all the way.

LOL your all a bunch of girly men. I drive a 5 spd to work at work I drive a 13 spd Road ranger or a 18 spd road ranger or a Super 10 And I'm either at 56,000 GVW when playing around or as is the case almost all the time running 105,500 GVW.

And boys I'm talking about either a 96' long hay semi or my day job a Kenworth/Pioneer Dumptruck and pup hauling Asphault at 325-350 degrees.

Heck my wife drives a 5 spd. her last car a 67 mustang had a 1977 RUG 4spd (w/18%OD) in it.

MY toy is a 48 Willys Jeep 3spd/2 spd w/5.38 final drive.

I paid extra for driver ed classes to learn a stick. However, both cars owned by the Powers that Be are slushboxes. :sigh:

Snade, do men drive Honda Accords? :D

I drove nothing but manuals until I was in my late 30's. Now between kids and traffic I only drive automatics. But if I buy another sports car it will be a true manual and not a manual-matic. My wife's new car has a manual-matic and I shift it manually for fun on the weekends. Does that count? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Remember Ferrari F1 cars don't have stick shifts.

Wussies drive cars.. real men (like me :P) ride motorcycles, and they all come in manual (OK, except Riddley)

Seriously, almost every car and truck I have owned has been a manual. Now I live in an area where the traffic is ungodly and constant stop and go, so an automatic is much more practical. I couldn't afford to replace the clutch once a year around here..

Hell, I drove a 96' Dodge Neon for 5 years with a stick. Loved every minute of it, even in Chicago's traffic nightmare. First clutch lasted till 96k miles. Didn't sell it till I racked up 136k miles. If I could I'd always get a manual tranny, but man, almost all the cars or trucks or suv's I want don't have a stick in their higher end models which pisses me off. Heaven forbid that a person might want a Ford F-150 Lariat with a V8, 4x4, and a manual transmission. And forget those stupid Auto stick contraptions, thats friggin silly, thats for men that can't operate a clutch.

Well I'm on the extreme end I think as far as cars go, my daily driver is a 2001 mustang stick, and the hobby car is a very souped up 1988 mustang GT w/stick. That clutch has given lessor souls a hernia, but it never slips out of the hole! Before the 01 stang I had a slush box sable which was sorta OK, but the Taurus SHO 5 speed before that was a real hoot. Surprised the h**l out of a lot of honda owners when this big taurus would kick a civic SI's little butt :D The wife's 5 liter mustang has a lentech slush box. She ..... won't drive a stick.
