Who's got the skinny on Wharfedale?

I have a pair of what I assume to be Wharfedale W60's. Heavy bugger 2-ways that measure 14w x 24h x 12.5d. Same cabinet finish (maple, birch or similar veneer), Round AlNiCo magnet motor on the woofers with a red band around them. Tweeter is housed in its own enclosure.

Same tweed grill cloth on both but one is badged "Wharfedale" and the other "Wharfedale 60".

Everything is exactly the same with both other than the angled badge in the corner of the grille. The badges are fixed pretty well so I doubt that they have been changed or at least I would be surprised if they had.

Any ideas?

What were you wanting to know? There were early W60's that were two way. Most of them had another designation and were three way. I have to pairs of that flavor. Nice speakers. Mellow and smooth / musical.

Badges are "Wharfedale W60". Mine were made in 1965 and are 2 way front ported. Sweet, sweet tweeter, highly efficient speaker made for tubes. Do not overly push them with a high wattage amp, they don't need much power at all. Very musical, open with nice but limited high end, I think 15000 hz. The big plus with these is the great blending of the woofer and tweeter, no holes. I recapped them few months back.

Sounds great to me. Im looking forward to listening to them with tubes.

Kelly, I was really just curious about mine having different badges but other than that, exactly alike.

Do these have the purple tweeter or something else like the paper cone Super 3?

K

I just opened them up tonight and tweeter is enclosed. I figured that I will look into it further this weekend. I will let you know.
