Why are CDs the current hot topic?

I never gave up on CDs, and that's probably why I don't get the current flood of CD and CD player content on YouTube as well as many of the music and hi-fi gear related sites. I have CD players and changers in my trucks, and I have a carousel style CD changer plus remote DAC for my vintage home system. I have purchased way more CDs than LPs over the past 10 years, and I don't see that ever changing.

Why are CDs the current hot topic?

Because, as a fact of life, trendy is just a roll of the dice. Waiting for the day that 'being non - trendy' is trendy... :biggrin:

I just renewed my SeriusX account. $52.00 for royalty fees! Most of the music I listen to on Serius is in my CD/vinyl collection. Kept the car subscriptions but dropped the streaming. My daughter [in her 30s] now wants to go legacy/analogue since I pointed this out. You can get CD's at real affordable prices now and it is easy to check them out as good by sight. Vinyl is another thing that can be a good buy. Good vinyl used/new is getting expensive though. Streaming is good for portable uses like the iPhone but not worth it for background or listening to quality hi-fi.
 
Like the OP,I never gave up on CD's,vinyl either.
Am really enjoying the cheap price of CD's while vinyl can get rather expensive.
One of my favorite pass times is going to Goodwill to hunt used CD's,it's fun going hunting,not knowing what I will find to bring home and only paying $1.49 each CD.
 
Well...anecdotally...prices at local "resellers" (record/music shops, thrift stores, consignment and pawn shops) have increased dramatically over the past few years. The current range at those types of establishments is between 5 and 15 bucks (CDN). Further, having talked with staff and owners...vinyl sales have been slumping with the increased costs of new and used inventory. Used vinyl in good shape fetches 25 bucks and more...new is generally starting at about 40ish. All things considered...CDs are the better deal.
 
I don't know the answer to your question OP. But like others, I've never stopped buying CDs. Will stream a new album and if it is a good one, I'll buy the CD so the artist gets some income (am assuming artists get more income from CDs than streaming, if not that is a damn shame). Plus when I rip a CD to my NAS and play it back via Roon, can see the dynamic range of the CD. That doesn't happen in Roon for streamed albums.

I do stream music now in my truck and Jeep Wrangler. I kept a small pad and pen in each vehicle to jot down new music I like. Then buy rhe CD or LP.
Also my garage system is just comprised of a Crown power amp with gain controls I use as volume control. I have a RCA to 1/8" plug cable and Bluetooth receiver connected to the power amp through a small 2 source input selector and a ratty working pair of Polk Monitor 10's.

LP's especially. I would really like to build a nice record bin, but I just don't have the space according to the wife. :biggrin:
