Why do small Project One receivers get more bids?

yrly

Breaking records is good?
Seems rather odd if you ask me. I continually search for the Mark 1500, the TOTL Project One receiver, having paid $70 and $137 for the two I own. Ever so often (such as now), a small one pops up (currently its the Mark 400, which I believe is 40wpc and as far as I know the bottom of the DC series line of which the Mark 1500 is TOTL.) This auction basically just started and already is up to $36, with 8 days and 19 hours left as of the time I am typing this, with 4 bids. Can't say either of my Mark 1500s received anywhere near that response. Can't see what would put the lowly ones in such demand. Around the time I bought the second Mark 1500 one of these lower models closed for around $70, or what I paid for my first Mark 1500. Guess its just one of those mysteries. :dunno:

How often does a Mark 1500 show up? I would love to get one to replace the one I used to have; my father bought it new back in 1982, and it served us well until several years ago when the right channel slowly "died"! Right now I have a Project One Mark 440. It's OK, but I miss that 54 pound monster. Not sure what the output is on the 440, it has LED wattmeters that go up to 80wpc but I doubt that's what it's rated at.

Hey fritz... That 'dead' 1500 still lying around someplace? :)

I'm not sure what drives the bidding on these. It doesn't seem like there is any information on them at all out there, and it seems like one comes up on ebay only every few months. They are nice though, real sleepers, coming in under the radar.

Hijack question... Which series of Project/one's came first? The DC series (400, 1500, etc), or the 'other' series (Mark IIIB, Mark IVB, etc)?

peace,
sam

To add insult to injury I got a 3rd Mark 1500 after this post for $56.

DC series was after the IVB and such related.

Unfortunately it was sold at a garage sale we had several years ago. My father took it to a couple of places first to try to get it fixed, but they kept telling him they couldn't get parts for it.

Looks like adding Pioneer to the name has generated a little more interest! I'll keep that in mind if I ever sell mine...

And it seems like Pioneer is the OEM winner. Now I've just got to find some compatible meters.

EDIT: Pickup only on that auction is going to kill him.. If the starting bid was lower I'd go buy it myself.

peace,
sam

140 wpc CANNOT be correct!

Checked out the Mark 600 on ebay. It definately looks like a "small one", plus there are no big heat sinks on the rear sides like the Mark 1500 has which is 150wpc. 140wpc? Who is this guy fooling?

The Telefunken DC Series TR-400 is the same as the DC series Project one 400 model. Did pioneer really make these? Here is mine. Anyone have a manual?tt.jpg

Many will look at the back of the unit and see the wattage notation on the back that refers to the amount of wattage used by the unit, not what its output is. This is very common and a simple, easy to understand, mistakes.

I think the Telefunken is 75wpc

The Telefunken is 40 watts RMS. The first 2 numbers on the Project One/ Telefunken Japanese- made units depict the watts/ channel. The exception is the 1500 series, which the first 3 numbers depict the power- 150 watts/ channel.

I bought Telefunken tr-727. A guy posted on my thread and said Roland made it. Not sure if it's true. But I looked at Roland's website and they do have, tr- --- numbers for their electronic equipment. But I didn't seen any receivers. I dont know. Here is some photos of.my Telefunken tr-727 In case anyone cares to compare them together
