Why does the volume button of the sansui 2000a have 2 extra poles?

I am looking for another volume knob to replace the old volume knob of Sansui 2000a. But why does the volume of the Sansui 2000a have two additional poles on top? If I replace it with another one without two poles on top, what will happen? Does anyone know what those two poles are used for?
Thanks for any info!

Follow those two wires. They go to the loudness switch. They're loudness taps.

Do you enjoy using the loudness function? Without those wires connected you lose that option.

I really like the loudness option. But my volume knob has an uneven phenomenon between the two channels. I turn the volume up and the left speaker has sound before the right speaker makes sound. I remove the volume and measure and see that the resistance of the two channels is uneven. So I thought about buying another one to replace it but I can't find one with those two extra wires. Do you know of any type that can replace it?

I am not certain, but it is likely that the original volume control has a Logarithmic taper, whereas the one you referenced (in link above) has a Linear taper, the linked Pot has another disadvantage, it might be an Amazon regional thing, but from my location it shows as 'currently unavailable'. Further Amazon searches reveal alternative pots, but as far as I can see, most if not all are Linear taper.

after 1 hour of searching. i ordered this. i had no other choice no matter what kind it was. better than a speaker that doesn't play evenly like the old one

Thanks for the reminder. I canceled the order before it was too late.

Unless outside the US, and shipping isn't convenient, keep an eye on eBay. A pot like that is likely to come up eventually.

I bought another one for almost $5. It looks the same as the one on Amazon. But many people have reviewed it as working well on amplifiers. And I just took the dark voice amp apart to see.Inside dark voice is also an alps just like that. 1000010705.jpg1000010707.jpg1000010704.jpg
And I also bought the connectors. I hope I can fit it to 2000a.. I had intended to buy something similar before and add. the motor and remote to make a remote volume. Maybe one day I will
