Why does this EVG sound different?

I have an old Realistic R1000E ( Shure M91 ) and last year purchased the $15 EVG stylus. For the money in this it sounds pretty good. My thinking was that a different replacement EVG stylus for a different Shure cart would have the same cantilever/needle mounted to an appropriate plastic housing. This seemed the most cost effective and thus, the different carts would sound similar to each other.

I've had a V15 III sitting for awhile, never have used it because the needle was gone from the cantilever, and decided to just buy another $15 EVG for it. To my surprise the cantilever is a two piece design and the sound is quite different from the R1000E/EVG. I'm still messing with the VTA, but this V15 III/EVG sounds very good.

So, is the V15 that much better than the R1000E, or is the difference in the EVG's design the reason for the better sound? Or both?

Both both both both

Sounds like Jico's work. I don't know of anyone else who copied Shure's Era IV telescopic shank, as they called it.
