Why is this hobby enjoyed mostly by the male population?

I think we give too much importance to our cultural aspects and forget about the biological ones. Males and females of any species have different behaviors, mostly conditioned by reproduction and survival. Nature does not care about individuals, but for species. As a species, we´ve got a more developed brain that brought us rationality and freedom, unknown to other species, but this doesn´t mean that we are not subject to the same biological rules that Nature (or evolution) has put in the genetic code of every living species. I guess that what I wanted to say is that some differences between male and female humans are not merely cultural, that is, education (software) dependent. Recognizing us humans as part of a crowd of living species on this planet would save us from many self-imposed loads that have just created by some of the indivuals of our species.

All the best

It’s because the industry doesn’t cater to a women’s needs. When my wife walks into a High End dealer she doesn’t care about price, topology, and all the little stuff that goes along with it. She just wants good sound and something that’s not complicated to use. I applaud her for this…
Also, if my wife goes into a high end dealer she is treated differently and often talked down to.
A perfect example of this is would be when she brings the car in for service. The mechanic will look and talk to me long before her.
I believe that if the industry changed its marketing and sales staff (having a least one female on the sales floor) women would be more inclined to the hobby. If there is one thing I’ve learned in 20 years of marriage is never talk down to a woman like you would to a child. You will be very lonely!

The marine industry learned the lesson years ago. Boats are largely designed to appeal to women. Salespeople know that the husband desperately wants the boat, the only way he'll be able to buy it is if the wife can be sold on the deal.

Hi there - I just found this forum yesterday and I want to go on the record as an obsessed girl:thmbsp:

I have noticed that I am one of the only females that post on these types of boards, but I have always been obsessed with music and technology. I don't really have that much of a sound system unfortunately, but my music collection borders on ridiculous.

Although I have been starting to collect an unhealthy amount of turntables and cassette players over the past year. My goal is to put a vintage 80's stereo system together for my living room.

What really amazes me is that a) women seem to have better taste and hearing than us puny males and b) they put up with us latent anoraks in the first place.

Name a hobby and we always turn it into an obsession, except in Australian that is. There the only obsession is winning and it crosses both sexes equally.
