Why not use a rack de-esser for home use?

Those DJs just can't help turning it up.

I know a guy who was hired by a PA company just to stand near the DJ and stop him from turning everything into the red.

I would install rack grills and they would use screwers to turn the knobs.

I could imagine that the delicate sizzle of a clean cymbal, tailing off would be
'seen'
by the device as a sound that needs to be
'corrected' ?

If a tt is your source which causes sibilance, fix it.
alignment, debris, bad stylus ?

We've only encountered one album on which the sibilance was so pronounced and constant (a Mel Torme album on Verve, surprising as I associate the label with attention to fidelity) that by virtue of that alone it didn't make it into the rotation cabinets. Ssssssibilance can be a bit pesky at times, but not to the extent of adding a piece of outboard. We feel that if all is in order, there's not reason to even engage any EQ.
