Why People Aren't Loyal To Local Vendors

My daughter in moving away to college, and purchased a 5 drawer dresser at a garage sale to take with her. It was painted white, but she wanted it black, so I sanded it and got it ready to paint. My wife and her went to a local well known retail department chain (not Walmart) looking for glass drawer pulls. She found what she wanted, four to a box. She needed 10, and there were only three boxes left (12), so they grabbed them. However, one of the boxes had one knob missing.

When they got to the checkout counter, she showed the checker that one was missing. The checker looked at the package, and said, "I can knock off 10%". My wife looked at him and said, "But 25% of the merchandise is missing!" He said, "10% - take it or leave it."

Since we needed them, and it would cost more to drive somewhere else, they took them anyway. I haven't sent an email to their corporate office yet, but I will.

What are they teaching in school there says?:scratch2:

Only one wally world around you?

I'd just walked out leaving everything right there at the register.

But then again I haven't been in one (W Marts) for many many years......

Sorry my confusion!

I still would of walked out leaving everything there.

My daughter isn't one for confrontation, but the wife is. She already knows the manager, and plans on scrounging him out when she goes back to take care of it. He's a pretty square shooter, and will probably slap some checker's peepee.:thmbsp:

The clerk probably didn't know the difference between 10% and 25%, much less what a % was. Sadly, asking her to do simple math in her head is asking too much these days. :sigh:

probably a button for 10% off and permission given to use it...25% probably takes more keystrokes and/or a manager to authorize...IOW,i can do 10%,but i can't do 25%,as doing so involves some actual effort to serve you properly

It's probably not actually the cashier's fault. 10% off is most likely the standard discount for "damage". I'm actually somewhat surprised they even offered a discount, alot of places would have just refused to sell it. That's why I shop at the mom and pop hardware store down the street whenever I can.
