I saw a 100W Receiver at a a pawn shop that had 2 dfifferent types of meters it had Dual analouge VU meters and Dual LED VU meters that had the DB measurements on them. I was thinking anout getting it even though i already have 4 receivers that I know of.

i was wondering why so many meters?

Sounds like form over function. Well disguised crap in many situations.

What unit are you talking about?

You already have four receivers that you know of!
...is that like only having four children that you know of?

Actually, I understand the situation. I've definitely lost track of exactly how many tape decks I have, and have found gear I had forgotten buying, when going through my storage room. What a crazy hobby!

As for double meters, I think the other guys are right: it's a gimmick. A pretty one, though! :D If a unit has four of the SAME type of meter, though, it is usually quad/4-channel, sometimes a good thing.

If you want to add useful "bling" to an audio system, get one of these. Yes, I shamelessly stole the pic from an Ebay auction. I used to have one though, could peg both the peak and rms. :D with the amp I had.

Are you sure that one set of meters wasn't for the tuner? There are vintage receivers with analog tuning meters and LED VU meters. For instance, the Luxman R-1xx0 series.

On the other hand, the VU meters usually read an ~average signal, whereas the LEDs may have been set up to read a peak signal. More lights = more sparkly!

Ahhh....the Marantz 2500/2600 blue scope...Never seen one in person..

As for the meters on this receiver, now you've got me curious. Being the proud soundesign fan that you are, either kenwood/pioneer/technics would be a substantial upgrade. I say, if it's priced right and around 100WPC, buy it now and ask questions later..

Meters are your friend.

I have to agree with marantzfan on this one.

Almost anything is an upgrade over soundesign. I am sorry to say.

Quoted for truth. Anything that's Kenwood/Pioneer/Technics and 100WPC or close will happily eat anything Soundesign for lunch, breakfast, and dinner. Huge upgrade.

I Luv Uv Meters.

Put the lights out, light a candle, turn the stereo on, and call the mistress over from the other room :yippy::naughty:.

Just got this Technics Peak Meter Unit SH 9020. Should B here aaannnyyy daaayyy now...no need for Viagra anymore.:D

I used to have a Realistic power meter too, but the later version with LEDs. I still have a pair of Velleman RMS power meters that I assembled from a kit. They came with high/low ranges and interchangeable scales for readout up to 1,000 watts at 8Ω or 2,000 watts at 4Ω. You simply changed the value of input resistor depending on speaker impedance. The kit is still available from Parts Express and other places that sell electronic kits.

While we are on the subject of VU meters, IMHO the most handsome implementation of same has to be the blue vertical meters on the Nikko ASTI line of amps. :D Photos really don't do them justice. They have to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
