Why, why, why? The AU-222

So I had an AU-222 here for repair that was a basket case. Got it working and sent it home with the owner.

He contacted me and said there is a slight hum. Anyway, you probably read about that.

So when I saw an AU-222 pop up on eBay, for less than they usually sell for (but more than I would normally pay for one), I hit buy it now. It had been sold and returned, then relisted for less.

I want to see if there is any noticeable hum. If not, I almost want to get the hummer back and start swapping boards. Almost.

So, I guess I am the owner of an AU-222. But Why? ; )

So, it arrived today. Packed well. Fired it up and gave it a listen. It does sound sweet.

But, does it have a hum? Well, yes it does. Just barely, and in the right channel like the other one. Nowhere near as bad, but it’s there. Also pretty bad hiss with ear to the tweeters.

I will do a full restoration and see how it sounds after.
