Wife hates new speakers......Sigh

House too small. No corners to speak of in the room. Odd shape. I'm pretty sure if I said that to her I'd probably find the speaker cones kicked in lol.

No not really. I couldn't say that to her no matter how I felt.

I actually think it looks good! :dunno:

Looks good, but very masculine. I don’t envy you this fight.

OK get rid of your wife! Start dating Dancers they will love those Speakers and when You get the Pole put up in the Middle of the Room You will be in Hog Heaven! Sorry Honey You got to Go! :bye: All Joking aside those might be to big for the space you are in. They are beautiful speakers no doubt.

Place a plastic plant or two on top or scented candles. Even some art pieces, work to camouflage, distract the eye in those who are offended by the sight of some speakers.

Ok from what I'v read it sounds like your buying too much gear and swapping things around too much right now. All at a time you say you're in a small house and the "Plans Are" to move into a bigger place that your working on.

The speakers were an unexpected purchase but I just couldn't pass up such an amazing deal.
There is always deals the thing is your looking and dragging them home. In the space and time your at one would, should look at enough is enough. You have a system that plays music, stop chasing deals and looking for more clutter in your life. No matter where you live at some point you'll need to get off the tread mill of the grass is greener, and needing to shop and buy.

Leave them there knowing she's not happy.
Pack them up and store till you move and they're out of the living room.
Sell them at no lose since you said you got a deal.

Now my opinion on the looks, I think they are ugly and wouldn't want them in my space either. I don't mind the size or the high polish gloss black. But the contrasting gaudy flashy trim rings and driver cones really are off putting. I wouldn't want them in my space no matter how they sound and if I had to have them the grill screens would be a must have to hide the drivers. They remind me of early 80s cheap kabuki speaker trying to show value buy accenting the drivers and bring a mechanical look. But that's just my two cents and we're all different in what we like.

It sounds like a He-Man Woman Haters Club in here...! :D A lot of advise being provided, but I wonder how many would be following their own advise, if in the OP's shoes??? My advise, if the speakers have grills, put them on. While the speakers are definitely nice, they seem a little 'busy' with the various exposed drivers. If the grills were in place, I think the speakers would be less noticeable, which might help.

Good luck.

She hates them now, yet she'll "just have to have them" in the divorce. Then she'll tow them home behind the car by the speaker cables... no trailer.

Unless you're ready to break ground now on the new house, I'd put them in storage for awhile and go back to the old speaks. Five months in is "too soon" to be having a spat over over-sized speakers. I was going to mention screening with acoustic-friendly tri-fold room dividers, plants, etc. but those things are pretty dang huge.

Yea grills on helps a lot. My wife wouldn't allow those in our main space. But we have enough to divy it up. I remodeled the basement.

If they aren't acceptable box them up and have her approve of a smaller pair you choose. Then when you are on a better position set them up in your own space.

Another option is to "lend" them to a friend temporarily if you have someone to can trust that has the space. Go over occasionally to listen.

Grills are on fellas. I agree the drivers are a lot to take in. I'll put a pic up with grills on tomorrow.

If the grills don't help, perhaps have your wife pick out a new grill cloth that she likes better. Make a spare set for her, that isn't as objectionable? It can't hurt.

Seems to me that you two need to work out some kind of understanding. You need to be able to have hobbies and allowed to enjoy them. You already have a downright microscopic television, and all of your gear is already tucked away nicely in your white cabinet. What would her ideal entertainment center consist of? Using the built-in TV speakers?

Doesn't she have any of her own hobbies that she enjoys? Would she allow you to shut down her hobbies the way she is trying to shut down yours?

And just as a point of order, at some point I went from "absolutely no system in the dining room" to "well, you have those nice big KLHs so I set them up in the dining room since you were testing gear in there" <G> (I was really thinking more like Advent 3s on bookshelves, but hey, I'm not arguing)

So there is hope...

I feel very lucky. Have a wife that puts up with my hobby. I let her buy all the shoes and pocket books she wants. She lets me have my system set up in the main living area, and a system in the basement living area. I heard and believe that love for someone is wanting to find ways to make them happy. She does that with me. I try to do that with her. Really don't have a solution for you other than what has worked for me, if it applies. Sometimes a really nice sexy slow jazz song played at the right moment and going up to the wife and dancing with her helps too:rolleyes:

Women don't see a stereo as a hobby. It's furniture. We will never change that so it's best to work it out. If you don't have enough space to each have their own you must compromise.

My wife wants a soundbar/sub for the TV and a bluetooth speaker. Nothing more allowed in the main living area. But I get the basement to set up my Cornwalls. Now it's remodeled with a custom bar, tile floor, fireplace, etc. We are both happy.
