Wife quote of the week (EPI 201)

Well today I brought home a CL find; some EPI 201's. Of course, I was excited to fully looked them over, and as I was, my wife chimes in with how ugly they are. Of course I said, 'you can't possibly think these are that ugly with all beautiful (original) veneer in wonderful condition, and nearly 40 years old" Her response?....

"Visually, you can't tell me these compare at all to a nice pair of Bose speakers"

It gave me a pretty good chuckle since obviously not everything about this hobby has rubbed off on her. Yes, clearly Bose know what they are doing when it comes to selling speakers.

Anyway, it turns out the EPI 201's actually came from a guy that used to work at EPI and he actually put these together himself at EPI way back in the day. One owner, and other that a refoam, and maybe a recapping, they're pretty much good to go, although I might get a bit more creative with these.

I can't help you with the perceptions of your better half. Mine has also chimed in about the benefit of Bose (captured by a friend). "sound better and are smaller -what are you doing what those old large speakers"? I hear this time and again, flush what I have and bring in Bose. Yes, dear.

As it happens I found a pair of speakers today in one of the workshops, at work. In the back in an unlit section ... Bose 501. Apparently a 40 year old tube radio with a single speaker out-performed theses. To the back the Bose went.

Back to EPI. I have the Epicure 400+, a close relative to the 201. They sound very good and are in rotation now; congratulations!

I bet your wife would love my pair.
Tell her you'll patch 'em up, polish them up and position them properly and she'll love them:)

At my house, when I bring in a new set of speakers, I always let my wife have an A/B listening test to get her opinion of which speaker sounds better. She gets her say, I get another opinion of the sound, we both get to consider the stylishness of the speakers, and in the end she prefers great sound over style. Is that weird?

I think my wife would appreciate the sound and style of those EPIs. They are sweet.

"40 years old and the veneer still looks good." If she had been on her toes, you may have walked right into a joke about your own condition. You dodged a bullet on that one. :D

Your speakers look pretty darn nice!! Very comfortable looking in a living room enviroment and bet they will sound wonderful refurbrished.

Yeah, my wife would say Bose too. She doesn't care what speakers 'sound like', as long as they are Bose, cause Bose it the BEST!

She wanted a personal pair of 701s, and Bose surrounds, so we got them. Pretty bad, even she knows it now. But her friends are impressed!! It's Bose!!

Side note: I wanted to get a new pair of Klispch with Klispch surrounds, we got Bose.

Maybe wives think differently, you think?! I'd take Bose over Klispch any day. Right.
