WiiM Ultra USB: possible to play an external DVD/CD player via USB?

Per the title: I have a WiiM ultra, and it has a USB in/out port (which is powered).

Is it possible to connect and play a DVD/CD optical drive (an external drive) via the WiiM's USB port? Or will it only play media from a solidstate type drive?

Im wanting to use the external optical drive as a CD Transport into the Wiim DAC.

If I understanding the OP`s desires, there might be digital audio signal (translators) available to convert to his desired signal types ?

I know of and have used a USB to S/PDIF/Coax/Tos-Link convertor in the past, as well as HDMI to the same digital audio type audio extractor that Tos-Link (optical) fed into another converter to USB output to be able to easily/readily rip SACD`s higher resolution layer to my laptop, granted it required 2 series connected digital audio conversion devices to achieve this DRM restricted work around task.
I eventually found what I needed by snooping around Amazon`s search engine.

Try searching on Amazon, as they have all kinds of digital audio signal converters to possibly convert your player`s optical or S/PDIF Coax output jacks to USB.
My optical to USB converter is made by "hifi.me", as purchased last early winter from/through Amazon.

In have seen plenty of converters out there, and to clarify, I'm not attempting to convert the optical/toslink signalbto usb:

I'm wanting to take signal from an optical drive and input to the dac's usb port.

The issue I expect is that a typicsl usb solid state drive has a file directory structure\music files, which the DAC is reading, as opposed to an optical drive, like a CD player, which is offering realtime signal as it pulls it from the disk.

there is no control software on the WiiM for the drive that I'm aware of, so it's likely not possible.

Does your CD/DVD player have any digital outs? Like coax,/optical. If so connect this way, it will work perfectly.

There are some CD/DVD internal drives that still have digital audio "taps" that can be attached to an optical transceiver or digital coax jack (somehow; I don't recall how), but the drives would still need to be controlled by a computer of some kind.

Often these drives may be older ones from the '90s that actually came with headphone outputs on the front! You could listen to a CD through that even if the computer didn't have a sound card.

But other than HiFi Rose or Ruark making drives that attach to their receivers via USB cable that the receiver can then control, nobody is doing anything similar for any USB drive or drives that are meant to be used inside machines.
