wild edible plants thread

I always do a spore print if it's a new (to me) mushroom, or one that has look-alikes, or from an area I haven't picked it before.

Another one I actually liked this fall was the Indigo Milky, which is similar to a Peppery Milky but is purple inside. Looks really crazy (most blue food is not natural IMO) but it tasted pretty good.

Probably last mushroom picking for the year. Went out to the mountain elevation 3000ft and the ground is frozen solid. 25 degrees at noon. Had to dig out the mushrooms from icy ground and the mushrooms are frozen solid as well. These are Matsutake/Pine mushrooms.

Recently, I was back in California for a short while and friends wanted to go up to the north coast for matsutakes. I couldn't go. :( Those are one of my favorites!

Matutakes in december... If I lived in northern cali, I'd probably quit my job and become a full time wilderness man, lol.

This past season was one of two or three most productive years in the past 20-30 years here in the PNW. I even had enough to dry some Matsutake's. It's been raining like crazy last week or so...and I'm already wondering about next fall.

Winter steelhead would be fun too! Maybe I'll venture out that way next fall.
 
Crab apples were bb gun targets for me and it was a lot of fun shooting from my bedroom window. BTW, this year the beauty berries grew like crazy plants gone wild and then showed not one berry. I am pissed. Maybe next year.

That sounds like fun. I had about 50 apples that I gathered and planned on making cider, but then I forgot about it and left 'em in my backyard for three nights. Then I saw about half of 'em were gone. So I checked backyard cam, and saw bunch of wild animals coming and going and having good times.

I remember fly fishing for steelheads back when I was in highschool and it was ton of fun.
