Wildest animal you've been confronted with?

Before it was closed, I went to the local dump and saw mommy bear and her two cubs dining on garbage. I quickly threw my bags in the hole where they were digging and jumped back in the van. Another guy was taunting da bear with a juicy bag of leftovers and I told him she could run up out of the hole and tear him and his Olds to pieces before he could move into his car. Her growl wiped the smile from his face and he dropped the bag and probably crapped his pants.
 
Most scared I've been was when I had walked up on a sleeping buck deer one morning when I was heading into the woods at dark thirty to go squirrel hunting.. He jumped up right in front of me ans was snorting and stomping, and all I could think of was that rack of antlers skewering me.. I got lucky and managed to get a shot off from my shotgun over his head, that ran him off..

I've caught my share of rattle snakes, and copper heads and cotton mouths...

I used to have a small 9 foot Burmese python that could become a real handful even at that small size.. It would leave one hell of a cool looking bite mark that hurt like hell... My Ex made me give it to a friend after it got loose for a month before I found it..
 
Although we have a s-load of brown bears here I have never been "confronted" by one although they do come and visit the neighborhood in the middle of the night which sends my Australian Sheppard into low earth orbit. I would have to say that a moose (actually it was 3) that kept following me (and my doggie) while I was on a hike and would not leave us alone. Finally got to the car and drove off, end of story. Moose are interesting, they do not behave like bears, and are can be dangerous in that they can kick forwards and stomp your lights out if you can't get away. I was carrying a 44 mag which I sometimes do mostly in case of bear encounters but I really not out to shoot animals unless I am completely life threatened. Not a hunter, just want to live and let live in my little patch of Alaska. I prefer the salmon and halibut here for the freezer.
 
A rabid raccoon. I literally beat that thing to a pulp with a 2x4

Another time it was a whitetail deer. We have a herd that lives around the house and last Fall I was taking pictures and one just kept edging closer to me, like got within 40ft of me. I decided it was better to retreat into the house. Deer can be nasty

I concur. I have not tried white tail, but the deer here (black tail) taste probably a little like the food my dog eats. I was raised on moose and it is probably one of the "Cadillac" of the northern game meats, that and elk and bison. Still now when a neighbor brings me some moose it taste a little gamey to me, but still edible. Most bear meat I have had is hard core. Some really love it tho. Give me sockeye salmon caught a half mile from here and cooked the same afternoon or halibut. If I can have those two fish for dinner you can keep all the game meat there is!

Around here, they will walk up to you and eat from your hands they are so used to being fed... We can even bait and hunt over the pile here in WV on our own property, so everyone feeds them and makes them friendly..

Oh yes they are.. matter a fact, I got some deer and pork burger cooking at this very moment.. It's a deer I got this last winter, and I ground up some of my own home grown pig to mix with it... I've not bought any beef now in about two years, other than a T bone maybe every 3-4 months..

Had a fantastic tasty tender deer roast three nights ago that was better than most any beef you can get at the store.
 
Living in a mountainside small town in a suburban area, on a night hike I encountered a mountain lion. I kept hearing heavy crunching in the dark bushes above, shined my cell phone lights and saw these giant yellow eyes looking at me from no more than 5 yards. We (2 friends and i) freeze and stare for a good 10 seconds (felt like 30 minutes) and we see some small furry things run up the hill and I'm assuming the mother follows, looking back as she runs up.

Other than that, a giant flock of green parrots that suddenly erupted from a tropical tree in front of my house when I was in Los angeles.
 
Aside from man, it would be a moose. Walking some railroad tracks, out of the blue, comes a moose from the woods maybe 20-30 feet away. All I had was my 12ga with some 7-1/2 light game loads for dove. I shouldered my shotgun and froze. The moose just kept on its merry way. Whew....

Whilst myself and uncle were hiking in Bridger Wilderness Area some years back, we heard heavy crashing in the brush/noises outside the tent one night. Don't know what it was but we were unarmed and quite worried it might be a bear despite the necessary food/cooking precautions. What it was we never did find out.

I never sleep well inside a tent for this very reason!

A good buddy of mine made some summer sausage with pork and venison that was out of this world.
I like summer sausage but never had any remotely as tasty as his homemade.
 
Yesterday was taking a hike with my wife in the local open space preserve.

The weather has been warming up...snakes are on the move.

Sure enough walking the trail back to the truck and was given a loud rattle warning just inches off the trail in the grass.

Healthy, thick 5 ft rattler.

That got the adrenaline running.
 
Encountered a cottonmouth as a kid. We were studying reptiles in school at the time. I saw a snake sliding into the creek behind the house. I grabbed it by the tail and tried to sling it up on the bank. It was so heavy I couldn't sling it very far. It coiled up and hissed at me, showing the white mouth and huge fangs. I picked up a tin can and threw it at the beast, which was maybe 8 ft. away. It jumped and hit the can in the air maybe 2 ft. from me. It must have been 6 ft. long and flew like an arrow. I lost a shoe getting the heck out of there.

I think my buddy used the same kit.
...and speaking of, we have deer wondering through our neighborhood late at night to early morning. I think they like to munch on the holly berries in the winter that are in front of the house.
One early morning, still dark out, I'm getting into my Ford Explorer when I hear a rustle on the other side. Out comes one buck, nice horns and all, looks my way and slowly walks off, followed by two does.
I was very glad to be on the other side of the vehicle. Wild animals don't take kindly to being cornered.

BTW, thanks for the link. Just bought myself a smoker and snack sticks, polish sausage and beef jerky are on my to do list.
