WIMA Caps - Voltages

Hello -

I purchased some caps today from a warehouse.

They are WIMA marked ....

WIMA MKP10

0.1

1000-
600-

Can anyone confirm that these are 1000Volt and not 600Volt or less...
I bought under assumption they were 1000Volt.

Planning to use to replace some cermaic caps.

Just an observation. Lots of old tube amps have ceramic caps in some positions, and often these caps have high voltage ratings..just because they can due to being ceramic. If your amp (or other piece of gear) doesn't have B+ over about 450v, which would be most all consumer units, you don't need a 1000v capacitor, even though as a ceramic they might have 1000v caps installed. Now if you are repairing a transmitting tube (style) amp with 1000v plate voltages, then sure you need 1000v caps.
 
Also a lot of the caps in my SANSUI 1000A I've seen recently have a WORKING VOLTAGE and a SURGE or PEAK VOLTAGE. or 250WV/350SV. or various combinations. Mostly on larger caps.

Its a Zenith amp ... Schematic shows... 600v for the ones I am replacing.

I will keep in mind the plate and B + info too Phototone.

Higher voltage ratings should be ok in most cases from what I understand.

Yes, using higher voltage caps is always OK. The Point I am making is that the little disc ceramic caps are almost always high-voltage rated, even when they do not need to be in the circuits the manufacturers used them in. I'm not sure there are lower-voltage ceramics. The reason (in most cases) the little disc ceramics were used, was because they were cheaper than any other choice.
 
There were low voltage ceramic caps, they were used mainly in American made vintage transistor radios.
 
Did the 600 have a ~ marking next to it? ~ means AC, and it would be 600VAC RMS, and 1.41 times that is about 850 DC. (powerlines tend to have a fair amount of transient crud on them, so they underrate the caps some). If the 1000 has a - (for a steady voltage, aka DC).

Good Info and point - 600 ~ is exactly how it is marked and 1000 -

So the ~ mark or wave line on a capacitor will mean AC? Always?

Looking through the caps I have for projects there are a couple that are rated

250~ with no other voltage rating...

This ~ means AC?

IF it is AC then I can assume 1.4 times that rating for a DC voltage?

I have heard an AC rated cap will carry 2 times the voltage in a DC circuit.
Same capacitance.
