Winslow Burhoe EPIs?

Hi,

When did Burhoe leave/sell Epicure? My newly-acquired EPI 120 pair have a date stamp of October 1977 on the tweeters, and Nov. '77 on the woofers. It would be cool to have something that he actually had a hand in designing...my T/E 100s, though nice, are not Burhoe.

I could be wrong, but I think he was involved in the early days of T/E as well, just with their new tweeter (it's rumored that he wasn't pleased with this new tweeter, but that doesn't mean it was a bad one).

Though his personally favored and touted "module" of the inverted dome and 8" woofer was not used for the 120s (10" woofer, I believe), if the dome is an inverted model with a masonite circle or on a black plastic ring with gold stripe and lettering, you have a Burhoe tweeter, and a version of his 8" driver in a slightly bigger size.

I spend a lot of time scavenging for speakers. Lately I have become a lot more discriminative of what I buy (they take up LOTS of space, as you all well know). I did have a good feeling about these 120s though (with the black plastic ring/gold stripe tweeter). Though they are not big Altecs or Grand Concerts, i'm glad to have found something that "counts"!
 
If you like Burhoe you should listen to his "line", I had a pair of Burhow Blues that were real nice to listen to. They had his 10", 1 1/2" inverted dome mids and a 1" inverted dome tweeter. The mids and tweeters were set in nice polished cast aluminum frames.
